Hey all, I just found this web site, and the contest attached to it. I'm a somewhat older lego fan, and only recently found myself back in the hobby after many years absence. I found my way back due to doing a little research for my writing, and saw some wonderful lego creation being made- inspiring to break out some of my own, and bu a few new pieces, to boot!
Its with that that i recently found my way here, and saw this chess contest- and I figured I'd give it a shot.
Anyway, here is a little attempt at making a chess set for the contest. I'm not a big fan of overtly good and overtly evil sort of things, so the look of the set was one that was to be ambiguous. Light colors here, dark colors there- heroic looking knights and a kind queen along with a ambitious king and ambivalent troops. At first I had hoped to tell a story with the pieces, but time and size constraints just proved too much. I still think the figures 'speak', but not as much as I might have liked.

Very nice chess set But is it practical to actually play the game?
I especially like those in white robes!

Is it practical... well, sort of. I mainly made all the stuff so big in a bid just to try going down a different design route. Because I didnt have enough time to try and figure out a bunch of fancy designs and such, see if I had all the needed pieces for them, and make something elaborate, I needed something different to try and give it my own 'feel'.
In terms of playing, if the enemy has large sized pieces it wouldn't be too bad at all.
