Forge (LDD series part 2)

Post by Gomur »

Here's another MOC of the peaceful castle variety. I tried including a couple of figs and I tried to make them relatively unique which isn't easy with LDD. Who decided that a dozen non-ubiquitous city torsos and one single castle torso was a "good selection"? Even some generic white shirts would have been nice...

Image

The smith has a custom hammer and the rack behind his apprentice has a nice variety of tools that can be used for other MOC's relatively easily. The loose tiles on the ground are supposed to be bars of iron, and the basket on the left is full of coal and ore. I thought about trying to make some sort of bellows, but it didn't look right and pushed up the cost.

That looks awesome. It is not a bad price either. The forge itself is very cool! Wish I had a big forge, makes armour making much, much easier.

This is a nice little moc which reminds me of an idea book creation. Your LDD creations are impressive given the somewhat limited number of castle elements in the current assortment.

Thanks for the comments, guys! I'm thinking I might actually order this one. For a hair under $14, it's affordable even for a working dad like me. They do have a limited number of pieces on LDD, but when I looked at the LEGO site last night, they apparently added LURPS! Some more torsos would be best, though, truly.

This is a very cool MOC. and I would agree that it is reasonably priced. It looks like an updated (Crown era) blacksmith. One could add a building - from a simple shack to a full blown house - very adaptable. Sweet.

I would definitely buy this. It looks awesome. I like the detailing around the forge itself. I think it would go great with the Castle Seige or the old King's Royal Fortress.

You can buy this now, and my cottage, they've both entered "Now Available" status. My Lego.com username is "vinniethevole".

I purchased two of the "forge," but as I was looking for the Knight's Cottage my work computer kept freezing up. I'll have to look for it on my home computer. My current company is one that tries to limit internet access as much as possible(lucky to have access to this site).

Kudos to Gomur for the cool sets!

Hold off on the cottage. I'm tempted to try and make a cheaper version by using fewer pieces. It does look great as-is, but I used that sort of as an exercise to get used to the program and how it all works. I think the idea is to minimize pieces to make it as inexpensive as possible and I didn't really know that at first. I may try to redesign it and bring it in under $50. At the moment it's $59, and since I actually HAVE built this one in real life, I'd say that as great as it looks, it's not worth $60. Give me a few days on this one, I can make it cheaper just by reconfiguring the bricks used.

Also, I'm very happy you liked it enough to buy a couple of them. There's a lot of pieces that will be useful for other MOC's too. I built it with pieces I would have wanted most of for that very reason. Hope you enjoy, and post a pic when you get it!

"If you build it..." to quote one of my favorite movies. I was thinking of getting the Cottage as well but the LEGO site for my creations must be down, I can't access it from work or home. Good thing, I'll wait until you redesign it.

Keep up the good work!

The redesign is finished, and you can pick up the cottage at a snazzy new low price of $48.52. It's almost imperceptibly scaled down, maybe 5%, but virtually identical for $11 less.
