Well, in most stories, orcs are bred from tortured elves and/or cross bred with humans. I suppose that there would be females (of a sort), but I think the whole breeding thing is lost on kids and not required to make these guys a useable faction. Again... I would have prefered some form of orc general, but you cant please everyone.

Looks like a spyglass. Arrr!
Arrr! Arrr! Ahoy, mateys!

(Sorry, I just felt the need to do that)

Man, 2009 is going to be an awesome year for Lego! :D

That's Tolkien, not most.

I was about to say the same thing. MOST fantasy has orcs as a seperate and distinct race. Not hybrids.

One thing I really like about She-Orc is that her face is no different from the (presumably) male orcs, apart from looking more aged/scarred/magical-crazy. (Interesting that she, like the necromancer, has dissimilar eyes--a common side-effect of performing evil magic, perhaps?) That is, the designers didn't feel the need to give her eyelashes and lipstick in order to underscore that she's a gal. It's just one of my pet peeves that I'm glad was avoided here.

If you look closely, she actually DOES have lashes and lipstick.

No, I mean the black feminine lip shape, it just looks like lipstick to me.

Well, at least it's subtle, then. <-- optimism

So those are supposed to be eyelashes? I took them for some kind of brow ridge wrinkles. And the lips could just as easily be shading. An androgynous orc!

You think that's where my occasional eye-twitch comes from?

I will use this figure for a somewhat generic female troll, like a hive queen, warrior, shaman, witch, seer or whatever. I think it will be a great addition to the home ranks of the trolls and extend their mythology greatly.

Yes. If you cover up the teeth, boil, and deformed eye on the left, she's actually quite pretty.

DerBum wrote:I could personally care less about this figure and would have preferred an troll/orc general or something. I like the female civilian (peasant) figures, as they fit better and were badly needed. Whether Lego is using Tolkien as a starting point or not, I dont really see a need for a Shaman or Female troll character (I have never seen a female troll/orc portayed in any sense). I would prefer a "bad guy" female in human form. It wouldnt be too difficult to throw in some evil human foot soldiers in upcoming sets mixed in with the troll/orcs.

That said, I am glad that Lego is stretching out and expanding the types of figure being offered for castle.
I disagree. For me its easier to make a orc general from the existing figures than to try to make a female orc shaman. I am very glad that LEGO made this figure.

I don't remember Tolkien saying much if anything about female orcs. Initially Orcs were tortured elves by Morgoth but then became a race unto themselves (as I understood it).

LEGO is definately hitting some home runs here. I hope they keep it up.

I like the figure too. I was trying to come up with a way to make an orc matriarch. I was leaning towards Kit Fisto. :D
