New Shields?

Postby Garbageman13 » Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:46 pm

If you take a look at your Lego Club Magizine/Brickmaster on the,"Castle Ship Building Challenge!" page you'll notice something awfull unusual! Take a gander at the Dwarve's Mine on the upper left area of the page.
There's slight differences on the set, and you'll notice that the dwarve's shields are different! Yes, they are axes on them, instead of the winged helmet emblem we've seen. So I ask myself this, are they extending the Dwarve's Mine to 2009(Which I find unlikely) or are these prototype pictures somehow...

Or will we be seeing more Dwarves in 09? :)

I know this is rather random, but I was bored..

Any pictures/scans/whatever?

I think it might simply be a case of it being an old/prototype shot though?

Hehe, I was discussing this in chat last night with Robin Hood and Bluesecrets.
Here's a scan I found through Eurobricks, we had come to the conclusion that it was a prototype image. I still think it's an odd time and place for it to show up though...

Thanks Sir Dano! I'm thinking it might be a prototype set too. That Orc with the viking torso makes me start to think it's a prototype even more...

That would be the dead giveaway in this case.

Also, one of the dwarves has light tan legs and there appear to be two of the new Power Miners rock creatures on the cliff. Also on the previous page their is one of those same rock creatures breaking out of the rock on the bottom, right next to the Castle logo.

Those little rock monsters seem to be all over though pics. This is interesting, I was going to buy a few of them to go in my castle LEGOverse anyway but maybe I won't have to buy those 'other sets'.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

I noticed something different on the Dwarf mine when you compare the first release to the second... The way the mine carts are connected is a different piece. I don't know if that was been brought up before.

I wish there was a better scan, I cannot really tell what the shields look like. They are so small. Same with the power miner creatures. Does anyone have a good picture of them?

I screen-capped these images off legoclub.com. They're pics from an online game but I can't imagine that the IRL versions will look much/any different.

Well, I think the shields would be more of a dead giveaway. I just meant the prototype-ish Orc made me think it even more. Not that it was the dead giveaway.

But then again, I think you were just being sarcastic, weren't you?

No sarcasm intended, I meant simply that the Viking torso on the orc was what convinced me that it was a prototype pictures, it confirmed the theory that rose up with the different shields.

Oh, okay. Now that I think of it, the shields didn't look half bad. I wonder why they changed them...

No, that's a Power Miner's monster.
They are very cool, Marc Stafford, the designer of the Power Miners series showed us all 5 the new Rock Monsters, as well as the Power Miners minifigs and one of the larger sets in a closed club meeting we had at Legoworld. We weren't allowed to take pictures of anything, but we were allowed to see/touch/play with the new Power Miners stuff. I really like those little monsters and I think it's cute they're appearing everywhere in the catalogs :D

Prepare to be interrogated next time you're in chat. ;)
