Strasburg cathedral-west front

Post by draugaer »

A recent moc I did of Strasburg cathedral in micro scale
It was a pretty complicated build, but I was very pleased with the results. Its not totally acurate, but I think its a pretty good representation.

I'd like to complete the whole cathedral at some point, but I need more pieces. I'd like to build it digitally first so I know what pieces I need, but LDD's piece selection is too limited. Any suggestions on other thhings to try?

Hello!

Oh, I like that. Magnificent detail. The use of the turntable bases in the rosette is ingenious, and so is the use of the long antennas. Great work.

thx for the compliments. The rose window was the first part I built. I came across the idea by chance. I just had a bunch of legos lying around and I noticed a turntable base under an arch. Then I thought; hmm, that kinds looks like part of a rose window.

Then I just built the rest of the building around the window. I decided to try to replicate Strasburg cathedral because I had a lot of useful red pieces, and the cathedral is famous for its slightly reddish hue.

Strasbourg has one of the most complicated and detailed Gothic facades in Europe. To be able to capture it in such a small scale and with such consistency is something to be admired. My sincere admiration

When I look at this my first thought is that all that red gives it an unholy feeling to it, as if the very walls are weeping blood. Could be haunted by a vampire or the main church of a devil/demon worshipping sect.

Thanks very much :D. Comming from you, that means alot; I was a huge fan of the recent gothic cathedral you finished.

Its cool that there is another admirer of gothic architecture here, I really feel that the gothic style was the richest period of architecture (western architecture that is) from the end of the roman era til the late 19th century.

I loved to watch the cathedral when I lived in Strasburg.

You guys may want to dig Bruges (Belgium) if you like that kind of architecture.
