Winter Ad Buys: Is it just me...

Post by Peppermint Pig »

Is it just me, or has there been more used Lego appearing on sites like Craigslist lately? Could anybody confirm this? More want-ads have been appearing as well.

If you've seen this, how much of this do you believe could be related to the economy? The holidays?

This is normally a dormant time of year for Stone Goblin and I to buy used collections because of the cold and snowy seasonal weather where we live. But lately there have been a whole slew of ads. I've even seen free Lego offered, but they lived too far away to capitalize on.

I haven't noticed, as this is a rather dormant Lego-buying time for me as well. It wouldn't surprise me though. Christmas is coming, the economy is in the tank. People need extra money right now, so a lot of stuff is being sold. I talked with a prominent second-hand dealer here in my area and he said he is getting a lot more calls to come buy the contents of storage units, etc. He also said business is up because people are buying more used stuff rather than new. On a good note, he said that his percentage of credit card sales has dropped. Maybe people are learning.

My dad frequents car auctions and he said sales at them have really dropped off. He bought two nice vehicles last week, for next to nothing. There's just not a lot of money moving around right now.

My point is that if someone has some cash, there are some great deals in the secondhand markets right now. Lego included, I'm sure.

I've only been watching craigslist for lego for roughly a year and there really is no rhyme or reason to it in my area. The only trend i noticed were lots of Kings Castle Sieges popping up shortly after the Walmart sale.

Most annoying thing about craiglist is by the time i contact them, they are usually sold already. I have also seen some postings where they list a low price and then after (I am assuming here) they receive a lot of responses, they tend to raise the price or say they are taken.

Days can go by without seeing anything decent posted, and t hen one weekend you can see like 8 good lots for sale.

If you don't already know about Crazed list, you might check the site out (crazedlist.org), lets you search many craigslist "regions" at once.
