These problems I hear about missing pieces is one of the main reason that has so far prevented me from buying large set, and now I am in fact worried... should I really spend 100e on a set and risk ending up with missing pieces?

I do not have a bulk of spare parts to find replacement for these missing pieces. And I buy everything so far from the stores... does CS send missing pieces even if the set was bought from a regular shop? I don't think so.

The weird thing is that as far as I remember I never had a single missing piece from LEGO sets when I was a kid... It's understandable that nowadays sets generally are made with lots of more pieces, many of which are 1x1 round or square or anyway very tiny, and that way more different pieces are produced compared to the past, all of which are possible causes of mistakes. But given the high price of LEGO compared to other toys, I think the distribution should be perfect: they manage to have near-perfect production (really really small error rate), why not distribution?

I'm quite sure they do. I have had an missing part in a set i bought out of ebay, and there where no problem with getting it replaced.

TLC has never given me or anyone I know who were missing pieces in a newly bought set any issues with getting them replaced without cost. Lego has the best customer service of any corporation I know of.

I have bought hundreds of sets, and never had a missing piece.

Actually I have Never had a piece missing.
And I got my Lego 10193 one week ago and I love it!

Just finished building it, took all day. It's a lot of fun, looks great and oozes playability but there's still plenty of room for improvement- the lack of a door up above the bar is baffling.

Echoing what others have said, the tree works better than what I thought it would. Sure, it could be better, but it's a huge improvement on some of the "trees" we've had over the years. I like the cows too- I had intended on selling them, but i'm rather fond of them- they'll be getting used soon.

As for missing bricks, just a single 1x2 medium blue.

don't think that missing pieces just occur in big sets. I bought a indiana Jones set Race for the stolen treasure it it was missing 2 of the same part.

I have 20+ extras, mainly 1x1 round plates and cheese slopes.

an interesting note on this set.

Now stick with me.

I got my nephew<12> a 7699 for Christmas. He loved it and built the darn thing in like an hour. Anyway i figured he'd like the weapon heavy MM sets as he does.

Last week i got my 10193. I asked the same nephew if he'd like to build it. He promptly went to work. Now i figured this set would bore the snot out of him, but much to my surprise, the following day he excitedly expounded the merits of the trip hammer mechanism, and even the food stand.

As I said in my previous post, me neither... at least in childhood's times (the 80s), but today's sets have many more pieces (and cost much more) and lots of people tell stories about missing pieces, so that even if it never happened to me, I am worried about it. Maybe it's stupid, but it grew on me.

Bought 10193 from Handar yesterday, with a pleasant meeting at a Timmy's in Stratford. Imagine, speaking intelligently about Lego with other adults - who aren't looking for ways to steer the conversation away from "childish" diversions!! Thanks, Handar!

Anyway, my daughter and I promptly went about building it - or at least, parts of it.

My initial, partial, observations:

- that's a BIG box.

- two instruction books, with a total of over 130 pages.

- laughed at the helpful hints to not build on a carpeted floor, but to build on a table.

- after starting on a laminate floor, I quickly realized that my body, in the latter half of my fiftieth decade, was no longer attuned to sitting/lying on a floor building things. Eventually found a piece of plywood that was set on a plastic tub to create a "table" of sorts to continue building with a more 'civilized' posture. (Yes, I know... I'm old).

- the newest figs have printing on both sides of the torsos. Figs from the Advent calendar or earlier are still one-sided.

- the brick-built birds are fun. Still haven't decided about the bovines.

- the tree foliage is much darker than the picture suggests. I love the tree.

- the wagon is beautifully simple.

- the blacksmith house (tan - now complete) has no stairs/ladder to the second floor.

- the oven in the blacksmith home is AWESOME (quoting my daughter). I agree.

- the water wheel is shaped by two POOPs. A bit of a disappointment.

- the inn (light-blue - not yet tackled) has some pretty intense window treatments. There are a lot of arched windows in this set. I'm not complaining!

- I think the brown 'carrots' are meant to be horse manure.

- the new flames are bad/good. Bad: rather MB-ish. Good: more flexibility for small fireplaces.

- using sextons as flame holders is truly inspired.

- pictorial parts list: most excellent!

So, that's my reaction so far.

This is probably the only thing that I don't really like: the windows of the blue house give a nice picture but since they are round on the top, there's should be arcs above them and there are not. So I don't really like the space they leave "free".

Update in case anyone cares:

I took another look through my collection and found the piece I needed to continue building. I had to take it off of a MOC lumber train car, but I can replacement when the parts show up from Lego. I am almost done with the set now, so hopefully I am home free as far as missing parts go.

Last night I was at a Lego store and was very close to paying $10 for a set just to get the little brown slope that I needed to finish this set.
