Sorry to hear we won't be seeing you there, Andrew! But rest up, and get better soon, mmk?!?!
The Blue Knight wrote:All- I had an idea at work today, we need a village being pillage. So think about building a vig-ish sized MOC with a Pillage the Village theme. This little village can come together pretty easily. You know, Vikings attack the church and are seen carrying out a TV and other anachronistic stuff. Make it BPB base 8 compatable and build away
That sounds like a good idea to me. I will probably be able to provide several "bigniettes" for that. Is there anything else you'll be needing? Like I said, I have some other obligations, but I want the CASTLE display to be great as well, and anything I could do to help, I'll sure try!

Sorry to reply so late but I'll be there!

I do have both a Black Falcon army and a Shadow Knight army I can bring, but as I'm sure most of you know I'm very protective and I prefer to keep them unmixed from everyone else's figs...if someone wanted to build a landscape and set them up somewhere on the layout, let me know.

I don't think I'll be bringing anything significant for castle this year, but I look forward to seeing you all there!

That's an understatement. ;)

See you there, John!

So I can be sure to get things right, what's BPB baseplate 8 and such? Is that just a 32x32 basplate or something?

Suppose I can answer that. ;)

Base8 means anything with edges that are a multiple of 8, so 32x32, 32x16, 16x16 etc. Then any continuous features you have leading off of edges, like roads, have them also occur in a space that is a multiple of 8. For instance in this pic, the edge of the road is 8 studs from one corner and 16 from the other and is 8 studs wide. See here for more.

BPB = Baseplate Plus Brick, basically means ground level is 1 brick off the table. This allows for features like rivers to be recessed below ground level for a more realistic effect. See this page.

So, because Richard mentioned to me a possible SPARSE castle layout, and I would NOT like to see that, I am adding some to this thread.

-I will bring the rocky 'mountainous' section I had at BrickCon (yes it's still together, mostly) that's 4x3 baseplates, and I can easily make it Base8 height. I'll need a buffer zone on one side, to bring it up to a Cliff8 height, but I can probably do that as well. This will need to go along an edge, as it has raided mountains along on edge. I am not sure how that works into the Castle display so far.

-I have farm segments that work well as filler, and can easily be set up quickly.

-I have (4?) buildings on plates that can be placed in town or sprinkled to bulk that up as well.

-I am hoping to finish a working, and self-resetting catapult/trebuchet (without payload, obviously) to add some motion. I can have it down to Base8 on the edges, but it will have to be a hill, and near an edge for power (I can do either battery or 9v) and I am guessing something a tad larger than 32x32, perhaps 40?)

-I also have a couple sections of generic landscaping that I could bring as filler, all under 32x32

-I can bring some 1x2's for wall, but I'd rather leave as much excess brick at home as possible.

LET ME KNOW!!!

I know it's been awhile since I posted, sorry about that, life has been busy. On vacation now with Kristin so I'm guessing that still doesn't free up time for here.

But hey on to what I'm popping in here to say. Yes I will be attending Brickfest and I am actually bringing stuff not quite base8 but close. I salvaged some of my landscape sections and should be able to fill a 45"x60" if it's available. I'm bringing some of my old houses and trees (which Kristin me letting me rebuild along the road trip, I love her :D ), got some new ideas for the trees and hopefully I brought enough pieces.

I know it's not quite the area I had in '07 but it'll still be fun. Looking forward to another great fest!

Gotta get some sleep!

Hey guys,

Tom-I'm thrilled to have you along! I'm sure your stuff will be more than sufficient.

I too have been swamped at work, and it's showing no signs of letting up. That said, we are going to have a great display! I will ask two things of everyone;

1) Bring something for our Pillage the Village section of the display.
2) Channel your inner BreadMan mojo. We will be down Brendan this time, so we will have to get real creative with the landscaping as we "glue" the display together.

Dark--, I mean Plums_Diefy (gotta get that through my thick skull!) otherwise known as Caylin will be the co-coordinator as I will be torn away (especially on Friday) with my other con duties.

Speaking of those con duties...I'm in charge of the publicity. This year we will have live TV from 5am to 9am. Would any of you care to have any of your MOCs shown on TV? You can be there to show it off, but you don't have to. If you don't want to be up at Oh-dark-thirty, just have your stuff built and tell me about it. PM me if you are interested

Folks, this is going to be a GREAT BrickFest! I'm really getting stoked, less than two weeks away!

Hey folks,
Just thought I'd give ya'll an update, I've got a fortified manor MOC for the show that can be fixed to either be evil or good once various details are added. It's dimensions are currently 48 x 80. I tried to keep the landscaping in the standard CC format. It's nearly complete now so if there's anything important anyone might suggest to help it better fit with the whole of the display now would be a good time.

Much Love Lego Friends.

-=EDIT=- Just one note regarding figs, I'll likely bring the majority of my fig collection so's I can help Caylin with the photoshoot but as regards to built figs I'll be bringing a small faction of DOOM soldiers, and between 20 - 40 DM's and 20 - 40 Forestmen however many I can put together with a few parts to spare for photoshoot assisting.

Sounds great! As to whether the manor is good or evil, I'd like to have a balance, so if we have a preponderance of good we'll make it evil, and vice versa.

As for the sig fig photoshot, Caylin announced that this will be an attendee only shoot, so just bring Lord Doom and we'll line him up with the others.
