Large Gatehouse for Huge Modular Castle
I'm building a huge modular castle that will be about 5 ft x 7 ft when finished. The gatehouse has double gates and a set of doors. The gates really work too. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Deep link is the image file itself. Click on the picture in your gallery until you get to the image file ending in .jpg, .gif, or .png or whatever image file type you have.Clarkryang wrote:Sorry, I'm not sure what a deeplink is.
For example, if I wanted to post a pic of my Guard Tower and Wall section, it would look like this...

You don't need to post deeplinks anymore, the folder is public (visible) now.
This gatehouse is great! It's very realistic, i especially like the big brown doors, the arrow slits in the battlements and the realistic interior. I can't wait to see the whole castle, if this is only the gatehouse the whole castle is going to be huge!
are you going to build a keep? a keep at this scale would be awesome.

Wow, this is fantastic, Clarkryang. Really amazing. I love the details in the walls.... Just the right balance of function and ornament. I can't wait to see more of this!
I always wished people would build BIGGER... it's so cool....

I love that portcullis. Really gives a sense of iron. I may borrow that technique.
Great job.

Nice work. I have been working on something quite similar to your gatehouse over the past 4 months but since it has been my first MOC in like 15 years, 2nd moc ever, its going to take me some time to get it the way I like it.
Mine is only 34 studs tall over the gate and 48 with the watchtowers. Yours look quite a bit taller. How many studs tall?
I like your way of doing the forward portcullis using the axles and the big brown doors built in plates. I was thinking of doing a door very much like that but was going to try it first with bricks.
Im guessing the steering wheel houses up top are attatched to a string reel or the like for the portcullis operation? Have any pictures of that?

There are certain MOCs made by Afols, which are simply breath taking. This MOC is an excellent example of experience, talent, and an inspiration to castle builders. I cannot provide constructive criticism for a MOC like this, it is just GREAT. One of my favorite parts would have to be the sleek towering walls with some sort of ivy or plant growing slowly up its side (good mixture of inspiring architecture with the welcome "intrusion" of nature). Nicely done...

Wow, how amazing. Looks brilliant. Want it.

Re: Large Gatehouse for Huge Modular Castle
looking really good, nice work on the crenelations and the portcullis especially.
Only critique I have is that I think you should place a few dark grey tiles here and there on the walls to give the gate house some more depth and texture.
You've sort of done it with dark grey bricks, but I think the walls could use a bit more dark grey and using tiles rather than bricks creates some nice depth.

Sweet!
I agree DNL, I would love to see a keep in this scale!

O.o This beast might even be able to stand up to JPinoy's hordes.
Great idea for the portcullis, I especially love the detailed wood gate. Any plans to set up a battle on this?

Wow, that's a lot of 1x1 round plates. Very impressive. I agree with draugaer that some variation in the wall colors might help break up the "big grey wall syndrome", but you have done that on the "cobblestone" flooring a bit. Overall very impressive. I like big castles.
I like LEGO Stuff. I have a blog called BricksABillion, a webcomic called The Brick Side, and I do some freelance artwork at Duckingham.
