Mesa Ladrillo

Post by Athos »

I was a bit surprised that I hadn't seen one of these before, so I decided to make one:

An Indian Cliff Dwelling

The view from above

So far, its still a little bit in progress, which is why the picture quality is kind of poor. The pueblos open up, but I haven't gotten around to furnishing the interiors. Any suggestions for improvement?

Steve,

The look is very nice. The wood structure peeking out is very nice and their seats on the mesa is very well pulled off. The colors you used as well. Pretty neat concept for an MOC. To be honesy I have not seen any in years so my recolelctions are a bit hazy. Something that comes to mind is that they seemed often to have several stories stacked upwards.

Very nice and original. I especially enjoy the simple, yet effective patterns on the houses. Did you build them with interior?

The one problem I could see is that the rock and floor look a bit monolithic. Maybe you could add some sand, rocks or paths...

Hey,

Very nice. I like the coloring, particularly the rust brown accents on the upper structure. BTW, I once did a cliff dwelling.

Very nice. I love the colours and everything else too. I would love to see a huge cliff with a whole bunch of these, but that would take just a few more bricks.

Well I've got the bricks, I'm just short brown BURPS, that's pretty much my entire supply...
BTW, I once did a cliff dwelling.
I knew I couldn't have been the first. I even remember yours now.
Did you build them with interior?
No interiors. But the interiors are accessible. I'm just not sure what to put in them.
The one problem I could see is that the rock and floor look a bit monolithic. Maybe you could add some sand, rocks or paths...
I hoped the tan buildings would help with that. I thought about using tan BURPS, but didn't think that would look right. Same with greys. I put in some sand on the upper level. Maybe some more. I like the idea of some rocks...
Something that comes to mind is that they seemed often to have several stories stacked upwards.
I'd intended to make the lower one a two story house, but later decided to do a second house on another level. I'd liked to have gone higher, but ran out of brown burps.

Looks great so far Steve! I've never seen this idea in LEGO before (sorry to those who have done it...) and I really like the look of it so far! It has that LEGO set feeling, but is still detailed and most certainly your style! Well done, I'll be watching for more.

I had never seen that one before Bruce. Looks spiffy. Love how it is built in a scopped out area in the cave.

Are there western sections at brickfest and the likes? Maybe some people could get some nice cliff dwellings together. I not some slight changes could make them castle themed right

Man, I decide to build an Indian cliff dwelling, go on holiday, come back and someones already made one.

typical, just typical

Still, yours is about 10 times better than one I could make.

You're right, this is an under served type of MOC. I really like it. I liked the Wild West theme, and was disappointed to see it go so quick. I think the cowboys vs. Indians element of this theme made (in part) TLC back away from this theme.

I posted some pics of "old California," which is a MOC by the great Jon Furman. It was part of the train display at BrickFest 2009, you can find the link in my write up in the Displays forum.

I like how you worked in a little farming action as well. it might by cool to see an Aztec envoy, very, very, very far from home making a visit. Nice job! A round kiva would be a neat addition.
