Castle at Brickworld 2009
Hello everyone. I will again be coordinating the Castle display at Brickworld.
Let me start off by giving some basic information about the Brickworld event:
• Website: http://www.brickworld.us/
• Date: Thursday, June 18 - Sunday, June 21
• Location: Westin Hotel in Wheeling, Illinois (same as previous years)
• Registration cost: $50
• MOC table size: Each table is 30"X72"
• Hotel room costs: $119 per night (That's half of their going rate. Please be aware that you have to sign up through Brickworld by May 27 to get the special discounted rate.)
Classic-Castle's own Baron von Ellermann will be the Pirates Coordinator. We are currently working to see if the Castle and Pirate collaborative displays can have a water area between them on lowered tables. If this idea does work out, then high seas battles are a go! We'll need all the blue baseplates you can bring so that the sea serpents, Viking longboats and Pirate galleons will have plenty of water on which to fight it out. Which brings me to my next point...
We'd like to create a Viking village this year as part of the collaborative Castle display. A simple Google image search yields many pictures of how Viking buildings may have looked. Making a Viking building that plays on popular stereotypes of how Viking architecture looked works just as well too. Typical Norse architecture has a lot in common with many of the civilian/residential MOCs that I've seen people make for medieval era displays. There was a prevalence of wood used over stone, and roofs had distinctive pitches and decorations. Do you already have a Castle themed building that you think might work in a Viking village? Just add plenty of minifigs wearing horned helmets, and that "might work" suddenly turns into a "you betcha!"
Of course, the collaborative Castle display is not limited to Vikings. Any and all Castle themed creations are welcome. In 2007 (Brickworld's first year) I tried promoting CCC walls, but with limited participation. Then in 2008 I tried promoting landscaping, and we had many more people bring wall sections. We would like to make another fortress enclosure out of CCC wall sections this year. Any wall sections (straight, corner, gate, etc.) will be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, please fill out the "MOC info" on the Brickworld site once you've registered. (This is for all MOCs, not just Castle ones.) If you plan on including a Castle MOC in the collaborative display, make sure to click the "Classic Castle City" checkbox in your registration information. The checkboxes can be changed, so you can update them if your building plans change.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to PM me or reply here.

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
I am currently attempting, yet again, to attend Brickworld. I have a grand scheme on how to get the money, but it's moving forward very slowly, since it requires start-up capital which I would then earn back.
My other major sticking point is cost - while I think I can get all the money I need, saving money would help. I need to find a roommate (I want to stay in the venue hotel so as to make things easy) and I'd really like to find someone between Houston and Chicago (or a little out of the way) willing to drive up with me to help save on gas.
If I could find a roommate or two (three would be fine by me) and find someone to share some of the gas cost, I'm guaranteed to be able to make it this year.
I'd be able to offer my large dragon to the display, as well as my other smaller critters, my greek temple, and maybe a few other things. Ulmaris still exists, but I'm loathe to take her, just because of the amount of set up/tear down she takes.

I am attending. I have hopes of a tan castle, probably on the smaller scale. I am making a large cove/island for the pirate area. I am planning on bringing my knight tapestry also.

Is the tapestry an actual sewn/woven one, or is it a mosaic?Bluesecrets wrote:I am planning on bringing my knight tapestry also.

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
I will almost definitely be there. Haven't registered yet, but it's on the calendar for "very soon".
I'll be bringing a large castle, but it's not compatible at all with wall standards or anything... it will, however, be sitting on a number (yet to be determined) of 32 x 32 green baseplates (or equivalent mixtures of smaller/bigger ones). I'll get back to y'all on that.
I can bring some Vikings, though, if needed, and/or keep the theme by defending or besieging the castle with them.
EDIT: Six 32x32 baseplates, so a total footprint of 64x96 in studs. It's kinda overkill for the castle, but just four is a bit too small. :/

No way can I attend, but one question keeps nagging at my mind: will their be a C-C photo shoot of all the members sig-figs? Or was that only for Brickfest?
Thanks, and good luck on the display! Sounds like it'll rock!

We haven't done one in the past at Brickworld, but I don't see why we couldn't. We had sig figs on the layout last year, but they were all over the place battling orcs.Garbageman13 wrote:...will their be a C-C photo shoot of all the members sig-figs? Or was that only for Brickfest?

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
I've registered now. Should be there from sometime Thursday morning/early afternoon to latish Saturday.
I'll be bringing the castle as a MOC. In addition, would it be cool if I brought/should I bring about Vikings to scatter around the CC display? P:

Only if they're pillaging and burning. We would love to have more Viking MF's, but you may want to group yours together as opposed to scattering them. When we tear everything down at the end, we don't want anyone's MF's accidentally going home with the wrong owner. There should be plenty of action going on at the shore for Vikings. You can also cast them offshore by putting them in a boat. Don't have time to build a boat? Bring boat pieces, and we can put them on the water as a sinking ship with Vikings swimming all around.Shadowviking wrote:...would it be cool if I brought/should I bring about Vikings to scatter around the CC display?
(I suppose that little red devil face is the most fitting to use in this post, since it's sort of Viking-ish with the horns.)

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
Awesome. Expect 15 vikings, two dying crownies and a longship. One more question: if the longship is gonna be in the Castle display, a) should I still sign it up as a MOC, and b) should I check the "Classic Castle City" checkbox, or is that just for the city wall sections?
Sorry for asking so many questions, I'm a Brickworld newb.

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
You can sign up any MOC you make, whether it's in a collaborative display or on a table by itself. You can check the "Classic Castle City" box for anything that you would like to include in the collaborative Castle display. That includes wall sections, but it would also include any other building/river/monster/boat/volcano/etc. that you bring.

I'm might be attending, I'm not sure yet. The problem is, I don't actually own a car, I drive the old one of my parents', and they are loathe to let me take it for the weekend.
If I do come, I will bring mainly seige equipment, and possibly my Blacksmith's shop.

Well, I just registered for the event. I haven't sold my kits yet, but hopefully that'll start this week. See you there.
I'll be driving up there by myself... gonna be a horrible two days, but I think it'll be worth it.

Are you trying to get a list of all of the MOCs that will be in the display?
I am bringing my river again, hopefully the people with the ponds will bring those too. It's on a 32x32 baseplate. Not sure what else I will be bringing, I have to decide what to build first. I will post here when I decide. I also have a bunch of minifigs I will be bringing, mainly knights/soldiers, plus a few wizards, peasants, forestmen, trolls, vikings, etc.
