Sir Hruodland and Durandal :
Sir Hruodland (or Roland) was the chief paladin of Charlemagne.
His sword, Durandal is said to contain within its golden hilt one tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Local folklore claims Durendal still exists, preserved in Rocamadour, France.

I don't get where the battle is, but it's really well done!

That posing is pretty awesome, I love the use of arms as legs! I do find the facial expression a touch too hysterical though The subject matter is interesting as well, I think it fascinating how the brief mentioning of one of the dead in a small ambush of the Frankish rearguard by a band of Basques could be blown up to a glorious hero dying in an epic battle versus the Saracens...

Nice little MOC here. This is one of the most unique entries I have seen, and I definitely approve of your innovative techniques. The landscaping is smooth and draws good attention to the well posed figure you made. The story line is interesting as well. I dont know too much about the period, but I do know that my girlfriend's (whose last name is Franks if that is relevant) family tree can place her as a direct descendant, through blood, to Charlemagne. <---sorry just thought that was interesting... Nicely done with your creation...
