Re: LEGO Ambassador Nominations now open

Post by J1A3L5 »

Hello everyone,

I'd like to add a little bit in here about what an Ambassador must think about, partly in response to the "pitchfork" example...not that I'm trying to single you out, I apologize if it comes across that way! I'd love to see pitchforks made again, and see no reason we can't have them...the turkey is back, after all!

Communication to the company of what we, the AFOL's (and TFOL's!) want is, of course, a portion of what goes on in LEGO Ambassadors. But many of the ideas we'd like to see aren't practical for the company, and we forget that LEGO is still a childrens toy and rely on that to make money. Over the last 2 years as Ambassador (and even longer before that!) I have learned an incredible amount about the processes taken to make an idea into reality and all the steps it takes. The complexity of this is huge, and it brings all sorts of considerations as to why an idea is or isn't a good one.

For me, I think it's important to consider not only what we (FOL's) want, but also what will be useful to the company. If something doesn't benefit the LEGO Company, it likely won't benefit us in the long run either.

All that said, C-C is a wealth of great people and there's more of you than I could possibly name which would make great Ambassadors.
-John Langrish.

I would like it if Bluesecrets was added to the list of nominees.
I already checked with her and she consents to being nominated :)

That's right. The 'A's have it! So you'd have a pretty good chance then. ;)

I'd like to formally nominate John (J1A3L5), Anthony (SavatheAggie) and Sebastian (aliencat) and also add Caylin (Plums Deify). I haven't heard back from Aaron yet - has he indicated his interest? I'd also second the nomination of Bluesecrets (ooh, as ambassador, she'd actually give her real name - motivation enough to vote for her). Are there any other names currently under consideration? I also know that some people have specifically removed themselves from consideration (Josh, Andrew, myself).

I second nominations for Sebastian, Caylin and Blue. I'm still confused about Tony. Does he want in or not? Regarding John, I've heard that he can't be an LA this cycle, due to the two year term limit. I haven't talked with him, so that would need to be confirmed elsewhere.

Hey,

According to this post, he is willing to be considered. Tony, please correct me if I am wrong.
On the 2-term limit, the announcement says "this rule only started with cycle 8 so all current Ambassadors are still eligible", so I interpret that as John is eligible.

Yes, I believe you are correct (I think that Cycle 8 should be Cycle 6, since we're talking about the next cycle, cycle 7), the term limits didn't start until this last year, and previous Ambassadors have been grandfathered in.

I would also like to see John (J1A3L5), Anthony (SavatheAggie) and Sebastian (aliencat) as our ambassadors. They represent the best of the CC community. It's a shame that there's going to be a consecutive term limit in the future. I would love to see Anthony and John continue on as long as they were willing to do so.

I haven't seen Ben's name on the list. I haven't checked with him but I would like to nominate architect.

I guess what I've been trying to convey, perhaps unsuccessfully, is that I am feeling no small amount of guilt for being the official Classic-Castle LEGO Ambassador and not having built anything Castle in quite some time. I always kept the interests of my two constituencies in mind while discussing topics with the other Ambassadors and LEGO, but my lack of participation in the community as far as my own building habits are concerned have not been in line with what I feel is expected of an Ambassador.

Obviously with the replies in this thread nominating me, very few seem to feel the same as I do.

Thanks CB. I have spoken with several castle afols and would love to represent CC again as a LEGO Ambassador. I therefore accept your nomination.

Hello everyone,

As far as I know I am eligible for the upcoming cycle, but not for the one after that as that would be my third since the rule was put into effect. I'm honoured that my name came up; I feel like I have neglected this community too much lately - I'd still like to think I represent you all, though, if you all think I'm worthy!

I highly endorse Ben being a LA again, in my opinion he was one of the best LA's there has been.

Thanks for the consideration,
-John.

Hey guys,

I was just looking at dates and we have to get this rolling to meet the July 1 deadline for applications. So, unless any admins object, the nomination period will be cut off at 11:59 PM EST Sunday June 14. Then we'll have a week to vote, ending 11:59 PM EST Sunday June 21. That will give our nominees a little over a week to prepare their applications.
Voting will be done by PM to me. Everyone can vote for their three picks from our list.
