LEGO Ambassador Nominees!!! <- read this

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

The votes are in, your choice for ambassadors were (drumroll please) in alphabetical order: Ben, Bluesecrets and Sebastian. Thank you for your votes. We now have an additional request for the community - see the end of this note. Ben, Blue, and Seb, you now have some work to do. From the initial announcement:
• Name and age of the nominee.
• Where is the nominee from?
• Which Group does this nominee represent?
• Does this person consent to being nominated (Please do not submit a nomination on behalf of someone you have not discussed with beforehand).
• Explanation of who the nominees are, what their activities are, and why they would be a good representative of their community (at least 3 testimonials from members of nominating group are required)
• Key interests of the nominee (themes, building styles, and some examples of their building)

NEW!!!

• Platform – The nominations should now include a list of the goals that the nominee and the community he/she represents are looking to accomplish as part of the program. Remember the LEGO Ambassador Program is all about the AFOL community having representation into the LEGO Group, so this is an effort to have you think ahead as to what you really think would benefit your communities the most.
Ben, Blue and Seb, gather this material and get it to Ben (Ben, is this okay with you?) ASAP! The deadline for submission to LEGO is July 1 midnight. To be safe we should probably submit it to them on June 30.

Everyone else - Notice that above the nominees are supposed to include "at least 3 testimonials from members of nominating group". Please volunteer to write testimonials as to why we want one of these three as Ambassadors and get it to the nominee so they can complete their package. They'll need this in the next couple of days.

For the record, I'll write one for each of you guys and will get them to you tomorrow. I suggest that other long-time forum members should write at least one testimonial each.

Bruce

Bruce, the testimonials really should come from forum members who have some clout in the community. Mods and administrators like your self would definitely carry more weight than a testimonial from a random forum member. There are also a number of senior members who are quite active in various LUGs and on other forums who might consider writing a testimonial. Being a long-time forum member is part of the equation, but community recognition and involvement is also important.

Question Bruce. To whom should we submit the testimonials? You, Ben, or the specific ambassador nominee?

I really don't see at all why mods and admins, or community involvement matter in the slightest. Being active on LUGs or other forums has absolutely (in my opinion anyway) nothing to do with it. These nominees are for Classic-Castle. And since they will be communicating specifically with Classic-Castle, then all that should matter is that the testimonials are written by Classic-Castle members who have been around a little while. Long enough to have a proper knowledge of both the nominees and the site. The testimonials are to help Steve Witt, or whoever is choosing the ambassadors, decide who is best suited to represent the specific group. People who are active on other sites will provide zero more information on the decision than people who solely inhabit this site. I do think mods and admins should write testimonials, but not because they run this place or have any sort of clout, rather, because they have been here for a long while. They can provide information as to why the nominees should be ambassadors because they have been here long enough to know what we need. And being active outside of the forum really doesn't help one in understanding what we need in ambassadors here. I hope my point is legible.

I would like to thank the members of Classic-Castle.com for your nomination. Now it is time for the three nominees to put together our best applications. Hopefully we will all be selected and represent this community in a positive way.

I would prefer to recieve any testimonials directly, so I can add them into my application letter to TLC. I will make sure I'll get all my material, including testimonials from forum members, to Ben before the deadline.

Ben, Blue, Seb - I've PM'ed my testimonials to each of you.

Everyone else - please do the same. These guys only have a couple of days to get things put together, so don't delay. The more testimonials they have, the better.

Thanks,
Bruce

Dang, as much as I'd love to give them testimonials, I don't think I can. I don't really know any of them that well, and I don't think I could write that great of a testimonial.
Should I give it a try anyway? I mean, I probably wouldn't come up with much except,"Yeah, he/she's nice and a great builder"

(Note: I'm trying not to sound mean, I'm just saying I don't know enough about the nominees.)

God bless.

The more the merrier. Even if you don't know either of us well as a person, I'm sure you can write a short testimonial from your viewpoint as you read posts on the forum for example. Elaborate a bit and there you go, you've got a paragraph already ;)
It would really help us out, no matter if you're Classic-Castle staff, an old-school member, or just joined the forum recently. A testimonial is a testimonial, and if you're a member of Classic-Castle they'll take your word just as seriously.

I'll give it a try! Hopefully I'll have time to finish atleast one testimonial.

God bless.

Perhaps the nominees could chime in and let us know if they've got enough testimonials from members. I'd hate with the deadline looming to hear that our nominees are still in need of a few more well-written testimonials. If you guys are still looking, I'm sure there are folks out here ready to lend a hand (or voice) to your cause.
