The Evolution of Hrothingas Castle, final stage!
The Evolution of Hrothingas Castle, final stage!
Here is this fifth and final stage of my project.
The once strong castle of Hrothingas has fallen into decline. After the castle lost it's defensive function when gunpowder was invented it was deserted, and part of the walls were taken down to use the stone for something else. Now people have returned to the castle and have repaired part of it to make it livable again. The church has regained it's function and a small village is growing in an around the ruins.
Here two different pictures showing the change through the ages:

Super great ruin. The worn, weathered, overgrown look is well done!
To answer your poll: my favourite stage is still stage 2, but this last one makes a close second

This was a great project. It was really neat to see each stage as it progressed.
Did you have to take apart the whole model and start over for each stage? I assume you had to do almost that. Or were you able to salvage part of the prior constructions to help in the latter stages?

Gack!
It took me about 5 minutes to decide between4 and 6, so I ended up doing eenie-meenie-minie-mo and landed on 4. However, all the stages were absolutely fantastic. It was amzing how fast you churned them out, too! It would've taken me about 6 months to get all those done.
All in all, GREAT!! Can't wait to see your next project

After 6 installments, I'm still amazed by both the concept and the execution of this project. Because of the abundant plant life, this stage is my favourite - and the whole series together is my all-time favourite SEOC. Congratulations, DNL, and thanks for sharing.

Re: The Evolution of Hrothingas Castle, final stage!
seriously, well done. There all just so fantastic but no.2 was my favourate unfortunetly i clicked no.3 accidently but number two was the best. I liked it because it was a nice I'd say saxon-medieval village/town. It seemed quite a normal early medieval life, I mean its got a church, some sort of market and a few houses. It has the design of a mot amd bailey with a few stone makes in it. I especialy like the raised bit and the gate area is fantastic. I think its realy fantastic but just remember that I accidently cliked on no.3 not no.2, but anyway great build

Another superb stage, Daniel! I've always loved ruined and overgrown castles. I've always had problems with it, but you've pulled it off brilliantly! Love that tree.

Re: The Evolution of Hrothingas Castle, final stage!
You really did save the best til last!
Stage 5 is easily my favourite stage with stages 2 & 3 falling close behind. The wonderful trees and plants are above even your amazing standards here! I also like that you've actually rebuilt the castle with a mottled look to add age to the surface of the castle. The little garden and the lone family living in the ruins are also a nice extra. The whole thing has a very lonely, sad feel to it which makes it incredibly beautiful.
It's almost sad to see this project come to the end. It is probably the best LEGO castle I have seen in a number of years. No amount of congratulations are sufficient for this masterwork!
Bravo.

Don't stop now! Stage 7: Walmart paved over the whole castle, Stage 8: Aliens attacking the Walmart with spaceships, Stage 9: rebuilt by the humans of the future. It makes me think of the very first episode of Futurama, when Fry's in the freezer, the millenium that passes outside shows New York get completely rebuilt and destroyed a couple of times, including a period resembling the middle ages.Blueandwhite wrote:It's almost sad to see this project come to the end.
Great job though, very original idea.
