Waterglide Village

Post by Jalkow »

Imagine walking on a sandpath, next to a river. Birds are singing far, far away. You are passing a wonderfull castle, but you don't have time to visit it. For a second you are thinking about visiting the castle on the rock, but no, you are in a hurry. Suddenly, when you walk around the last corner, you can see it:

Waterglide Village

This little village started as a tradepost next to a river, but soon it grew. Now there are six little houses: the Wolveshead Inn, the houses of the blacksmith, the writer and the fisher, the bakery and lastely the towngate. At the marketplace you'll find a busy crowd, walking around with their baskets, walkingsticks and shouting children.

I built this MOC for the castle-display with Aliencat, Stuifzand and MOCkingBird, last weekend, in Oss, Holland. You can find the brickshelffolder with all my pictures here.

Oh, and making the details of a MOC is my favorite part, so I decided to start a new brickshelffolder with pictures of some medieval city-scenes, too. You can find my favorite picture at Flickr, too. Here it is:

Wow, that's a lot of links... Hope you can find your way and that you like it as much as I do. :)

Hey Jalkow,

This is really outstanding. My favorite two details are probably the yellow roof - mixing in a few 1x1 bricks with the cylinders and also some tan works well - and the jester making balloon animals - very clever idea that. Great photography on the figs, btw.

Yes, excellent stuff!
We got to see the real thing in Oss this past weekend, and the details when you see this in real life are just amazing! I must say excellent photography in which you managed to capture those details :)
Indeed the guy with the balloon animals is one of my favourite bits too :D Great job!

I was really hoping you would post pictures of your village as it really stands out. I like the use of legs for the one roof. I think it's an amazing technique that would look incredible on a large-scale building like a church or town hall. The brown chair roof is also nice. Your village has such character as each building is quite distinct.

Great work.

As said in the previous comment, I like your roofs ! You use a different technic in each of the building and even for the well ! the use of legs, cylinder or chair are really awsome and have a great render !

You did a great job with all the minifig action through all the corporation represented !

Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for your kind words.
As for the roofs: when I started I was really afraid that all houses would look the same. That's a risk when you build a village with more than two or three houses. To prevent this MOC from getting boring, I decided to build all the roofs using a different technique and colour. I'm really happy with the result, all the houses show some character, which I like.
Thanks again for all your compliments!

Hei, I love this!
It is what I had in mind to build but muccchhhhh better.
I love the terrain bulding and, as the other already said, the roofs are wonderful. Each house is a masterpiece. I adore the fireplace of the locksmith. Congratulations. It is really really good.

Do the houses have interiors?

Very nice! While some people may not like in some places you have a one brick straight transition at the riverbank, I think it works rather nicely. I was a bit surprised at a lack of detail/life on the river though. You spent a lot of time placing minifigs but the river doesn't really have much for grass/weeds/rocks.
I also really like that you made your buildings a bit smaller than the usual Tudor style we normally see 'round these parts. I'm assuming this is either conserve space in the layout or conserve bricks to allow you to make more buildings. As mentioned before, that yellow roof is outstanding (not just because it's yellow) and will likely start to show up in other people's mocs. It's probably one of my favorite non-slope roofs, as an actual thatch looking roof is hard to achieve with slopes.
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Hi,
I'd like to know if somewhere the different ways to build the roofs have benn discussed in the past, since I don't have clear how to build roofs not with slopes but with plates. Thx
