ZOO!!

Postby Ye Olde Republic » Fri Jul 24, 2009 4:53 pm

The style of my topic header is for Quickblade.
Now that we seem to be getting a camel and an ostrich, how about bringing back the elephant and painting zebra stripes on a horse and give us a zoo? We have an assortment of reptiles and insects and candidates for a primate house already. I'd love to see a giraffe, lions and maybe a hippo? We do have penguins and polar bears, how about a seal? That animal could cross-theme to perhaps a circus too.....

Bring it, we're ready.
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.

I would very much like the idea of a zoo. Animals are always welcome in MOC's. It brings more realism.

This is a theme just waiting to be explored. Zoo's are full of adventure. Kids like animals, adults like animals. It equals profit. I can see fans of many themes wanting zoo animals. Why not spend the time and creativity on such a broad range of molds instead of the one off parts in certain liscensed themes. "Oh boy, I can't wait to get my hands on a.......(whetever that stupid animal from the Avatar sets is called)". Regardless, I know there are people that want these sets and have for some time. Hopefully in the future, we won't have to scream "ZOO" to ourselves and instead scream about wanting to own the finished product in the forums.

Well really need a lion and a tiger. And bears in a color other than white.

CIRCUS!!

:) I think that circus might actually have better set possibilities. In addition to animals you could also get clowns (use the jester hat maybe), maybe something like a trapeze set or tightrope walker, maybe a human canonball etc. It just seems like a zoo is more animals in cages, while a circus might have a little more action and variety.

I'd love either, though. Of course, Duplo has done both. Looking at the Lugnet guide they've actually come back to these two themes several times over the years in Duplo form. Seems like they could go there at least once in System.

In lieu of a zoo/circus theme, I'd be happy with a simple animals pack, like the City Workers fig pack. No new molds even necessary; Like Trevor says, paint stripes on the horse for zebra, make the horses in new colors (grey, tan), and the polar bear in brown or black, and we're good to go. It would sell like hotcakes, without all the mire necessary to put a full line into production.

I think Safari would work nicely too.

Circus and or Safari would be neat and have potential. I think ZOO is easier and more fun to scream.

I went outside and tried it. The neighbors think I'm weird, but that isn't anything new. I agree, we need a Zoo theme.

If you want to make them think you're even more weird, go by and ask, which did they think was more fun to listen to.

Momo. He's a lemur. A winged lemur, technically (almost all the animals in the series are mashups of two or more species), but the wings aren't visible in the LEGO piece.

And yes, a zoo line for City would be lovely.

They have it for Duplo, so why not System? I'd like to see a Park Ranger with a nice off road jeep.

As many have already mentioned, there is alot of potential here.

Year 1 - Limited zoo. Only animals that are already available. The polar bear (with repaints for other members of the bear family and a panda bear), a monkey, horse (repainted with zebra stripes), penguins (brick built like in the Batman line), the new animals coming out in the Prince of Persia line and a cow (not really a zoo animal). Add all these animals and this could be set in the Medival Market price range. Or release various pens featuring a different animal.

Year 2 - Aquarium. Shark, dolphin, alligator and fish.

Year 3 - Animals not available (yet, hopefully). In the Lego Batman game, there were lions. The Lego Indianna Jones game, there were llamas. Now, I wonder if these animals are somewhere in the Lego designers studio only and were made available to TT to scan for their games.

This line could go into production after the farm theme is finished with.

I don't think the polar bear mold would make a very convincing panda even with a paint job. It's too attenuated, not chubby and loveable enough. Polar bears and pandas are about at opposite ends of the bear phenotype spectrum.

I can already do monkeys, alligators, horses, cows, owls, falcons, parrots, sharks, narwhals, dolphins, sea rays, octopi, clams, starfish, fish, snakes, giant snakes, spiders, scorpions, rats, smart rats, cats, dogs, t-rex, stegosaurus, triceratops, pterodactyl, baby t-rex, little dragons, big dragons, baby dragons, Kaadu, Tantauns, hippogriff, phoenix, cerberus, small rock men, large rock men, rock monsters and soon camels and ostrich. I think there's still room for a couple others in the menagerie.
