It seems to me that the Pirates line is treated by LEGO in a similar fashion to Forestmen or other niche Castle theme. Bring it out for a year or two and then it goes away for another 10 years. I hope I am wrong, because I am a fan of the line, but I would venture to say it could be another 10 years before we see additional sets.

This does seem like a dry spell for those of us who love the traditional toys.... Bionicle just does not "do it" for me.

I do find it somewhat interesting though that the Ambassadors have been told there will be no pirates in 2010 but Castle has been left quit at this point. If there was no castle as well wouldn't they most likely be told at the same time? Just speculation.

CC's sister site, The Forbidden Cove, has had a petiition going since day one, for fans to sign their names to:

I don't see you signing up to keep Pirates theme going there, Athos. Better hurry before it's too late!

As I understand things, Castle is supposed to continue. Over at Forbidden Cove, Ben posted this statement made by Steve Witt:
Pirates isn’t gone, its on hiatus like every other line that isn’t one of our primary themes:

CASTLE, SPACE, and CITY

Pirates isn’t going away, it’s just not going to be a constant theme. It’s going to phase in and out just like every other theme that isn’t one of those three… I just wanted to reassure you guys that pirates isn’t disappearing. Just taking a break.
That along with Ben's statement that rumours of Castle being discontinued were false lead me to believe that we will probably see Castle again in the near future. If Steve Witt's comments are true, LEGO seems intent on maintaining the Castle and Space themes in the future. I'll miss Pirates, but I love the prospect of Castle becoming a mainstay again.

But when pirates comes back, will it be the same? Or will it seem like a new pirate theme that doesn't mix well with the current pirates line?

*Sigh*

God bless you all!

Uh... I was the fourth person to sign, with a pirate avatar no less. I also included a pirate MOC for good measure...

What more can you ask for? I guess I could have composed a lively sea-shanty...

:D
