I see that LDraw is allowed, are similar CAD programs such as Lego Digital Design allowed too?

Been looking forward to this contest all year, and yet again the prizes are awesome.
Not sure that I've prepared enough though. :tasty:

I have a question:

Eastern Medieval Life
Create a medieval building that is not located in Western Europe.

Does it mean it has to be ONLY ONE building? Or it could be two or more?
Your moc should focus around one main building. Smaller neighboring buildings could also be included.
Lord Lego 436 wrote:where do we post our entries?
Check out the submit entries page: http://www.classic-castle.com/events/cc ... est=cccvii Once an entry is submitted, you can post a new thread in the Castle MOCs forum about it.
DARKspawn wrote:Thanks to the admin crew for hosting this, the most grandest of all LEGO Contests, and special kudos for coming up with such inventive catagories. Of course you have only dug yourselves your own graves by opening yourselves up to even more queries than ever before ;) Good luck to everyone...
You are welcome. It does seem like we receive more questions each year. Although it is better to ask now than to build and not have your moc qualify.
TooMuchCaffeine wrote:Irritatingly, none of them are 100% suitable for the castle MOC I finished a month ago and have been waiting to enter. Grrrr. My fault for trying to anticipate categories I suppose.
Your castle moc likely will qualify for the Miscellaneous category.
DarkTemplar wrote:I see that LDraw is allowed, are similar CAD programs such as Lego Digital Design allowed too?
Lego Digital Designer images are also allowed. The small selection of parts, as compared to ldraw, does limit what you can design in the program.

Make sure it fits inside the size limit.

Just wondering, can we only enter ONE entry into each category. And where do we post our entries?
I need help, as I've never entered beofre. :?
As stated in the rules you can submit up to 2 per category.

Forget it, I've just found out the answer to my own question, but still, where do we post our entries?
Here is the submissions page.
DARKspawn wrote:... the sound of a thousand keys clacking as fans think of new and inventive ways to challenge the guidelines - nothing beats that smell! It's the smell of CCC.
LOL. Are you building this year?
TooMuchCaffeine wrote:Excellent. I've been waiting for this all year. Some interesting categories too. Irritatingly, none of them are 100% suitable for the castle MOC I finished a month ago and have been waiting to enter. Grrrr. My fault for trying to anticipate categories I suppose.
Bwahahahahahaha! There's always Misc.
DarkTemplar wrote:I see that LDraw is allowed, are similar CAD programs such as Lego Digital Design allowed too?
Yes.

Edit - Well, I guess Ben is up too, and hit "submit" while I was writing this. At least it doesn't look like we disagreed on anything. :)

"Custom stickers may be used for minifigure torsos, shields, and flags. You may use custom weapons only in the Custom Castle Figure and Miscellaneous categories. Brick built, custom, and LEGO animals can be used."

Can I use painted horse bardings and painted shields? Not sticker. Painted.
And I think that using of custom weapons in all categories will be a good idea :)

Great, I started my entry yesterday.

Just to clarify, do crusader castles count as castles not in Western Europe? I know they were physically not in Europe, but the architecture and design is pretty similar and different in many ways. I assume the answer would be no, they do not count as Western European castles, but I just wanted to clarify.

Thanks.

No, it's not OK. Better throw them into the fire. :D

We've always had these categories focus on the minifig scale. We just had the annual mini castle contest that focused on microscale. That said, there have been entries that used microscale to depict castles in the distance, to give forced perspective.
Garbageman13 wrote:I have a question, are 600x800 pictures allowed?
Yes. Each of your photos can be a maximum of 800 pixels in one direction and 600 in the other. Either landscape or portrait is fine.
kris kelvin wrote: Can I use painted horse bardings and painted shields? Not sticker. Painted.
Painting is fine. I'll check with the other admins on bardings, as we had previously said torsos and shields. Remember, aside from the custom fig category, the emphasis is on the building, not the customization.
FireHawk302 wrote: My castle has just a few Mega-bloks 2x4's thrown in, is this OK?
No. Now, if you have some clone bricks in your collection and we don't realize that some of the 2x4's aren't true LEGO, I can't see how we'd notice. If, however, you are using elements or colors not produced by LEGO, that would be seen as a negative.

The idea here was to get people building in a different style. If you could point to a particular historical castle the Crusaders built in the Holy Land as your inspiration, that would be cool and, I would say, would technically clear the requirements to be in the category. Even then, I would guess the requirements of the environment and the available building materials would lead to a different castle than those same soldiers would have in, say, the Rhine valley. However, such a castle would not score as high with the judges as, say, a ninja fortress or something that better fits the spirit of the category.

Ah. I missed the mini castle contest, and I have an Eastern medieval microscale MOC I just finished today. Should I submit it to the Misc category?

Sure, that's possible. If I were you, though, I'd come up with something like this by Jojo, where you make something to go in the foreground and make that your backdrop.
