CCCVII Religious Life: Theft at Scherpenheuvel

Post by Aliencat »

Here's my entry for CCCVII's Religious Life category: the theft of the statue of the holy mother Mary at Scherpenheuvel, Belgium.
I'm aware of the historical inconsistency: the church was built after the statue was stolen (it was built there, because according to legend, the statue of Mary froze the thief in stone, thus foiling the theft), but I just love that church so I wanted to build it :)

Awesome work AC! Love the color scheme, the tan/brown colors really look great, not something you see very often. I also really like the dome. I had to look up pictures of the real thing and yours is a great replica, very realistic. Good luck!

Beautiful bit of work. Lovely interior too.
Increasingly irritated by the way real-world work impinges on building time...

My bet is the thief foiled Mary by leaving a stone replica of himself behind and jumping into a wormhole in time (alternatively, he hitched a ride with Timmy and the Time Cruisers), reappearing a few centuries later when a church was standing there...

Oh, and awesome MOC ;) (the octagonal tower with the dome is my favourite part, pure excellence)

Interesting use of that one piece in the windows; whatever that thing is called.

This is a wonderful creation! The colors, the dome, the unique building techniques are all very impressive. If I had one minor complaint, it would be how the front roof hits the dome. It seems a little unnatural. It is a minor point, and in no way takes away from this great creation. Great work!

The color is awesome, as is the whole MOC! I love the dome.

I love the colour scheme, the architectural details like the rods in the windows, the angles you've created, and, of course, the dome. This is really first rate work!

I'm curious, however, about why you chose to make the pews the way you did. Looking at the way that each chair is rounded at the tops, I can't help but think of them as individual chairs placed side by side rather than pews. Were you going for a certain style of pew of which I'm simply unaware? Was there another reason why you chose to build the pews this way? I'm curious to hear your reasoning behind this, if you're willing to share that is. :)

I had some brown chairs and figured I'd put them there ;)

Very well done AC! The dome is magnificant, and the details are great.
It looks like you've got a good shot for the Religious Life catagory.

God bless and good luck in the contest.
