Hi. I'm new and old.

Post by Pale Dim »

My first LEGO set was given to me when I was four, I think, by my parents. I was a rabid collector and builder until twelve, when I decided I wanted to be a drummer. From twelve to twenty-one, most of my time, money, and effort went to the drums. I'd use LEGO maybe twice a year when the urge struck me, and maybe pick up a small set here and there probably for nostalgia.

Everything I wanted this Christmas was either outrageously expensive or too mundane to be fun to give, so I told my girlfriend that Castle LEGO would be a fun gift. She liked the idea, and when her parents asked what to get for me, she told them LEGO as well. I came away with sets 7079, 7078, and 7097, around 1,300 new pieces, plus a gift card for a mall that'll probably go toward more LEGO. I've been moving around a lot the past few years and left my childhood tub-o-bricks with my older sister. There are several thousand pieces in that tub, mostly Castle with some Pirate mixed in. I'm going next week to pick them up.

tl;dr

I'm hooked again and I can't wait to start work on a massive wizard tower or something like that. Goodbye money!

Inactivity is known as the dark ages here?

<_>

I guess it's fitting. I hadn't thought about building for a long time, but now that I am, I really miss it.

Then build, enjoy yourself, and share. We all like to see what others create.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I'll get building and post pics asap, if school and work don't swallow me whole >_>;

I just picked up http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8823-1 with my gift card, after long consideration between it and http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7029-1. Felt funny, buying LEGO among a sea of people in my age group buying clothes. One of the biggest malls in Toronto, probably 75% or more of the stores are clothing. It's funnier that everyone pretty much looks the same though... like spending as much as you can afford just to look like everyone else.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. Build time!

I felt a little weird at first buying LEGO as an adult, but soon you'll get over it and just be worried about how many boxes you can carry out of the store at once!

A bit odd to be welcoming members who have been here longer than you, wouldn't you say?

A belated welcome to you Pale Dim, glad to know you have rejoined the brotherhood.

Hi. I'm Pale Dim... um, admins, you can close that account if you think you should. I probably won't be using it again.

And thanks again for the welcomes, everyone.
