10211 is a fantastic castle parts set!

Postby DaleDVM » Thu Jan 14, 2010 6:13 pm

Many of the lego modular buildings like the Green Grocer and Cafe Corner have been very useful for parts in the Castle MOC community. However the new 10211 Grand Emporium seems to be the best of the bunch.

There are more pictures over here at Eurobricks. At first glance it is obvious that the entire building is made out of primary castle colors. Light Bley, Dark Bley, and Tan.

It is almost easier for me to point out the parts of this set that are not readily used in castle MOCs. Many of the figs torsos would be tough to incorporate into castle. However, the governors daughter's dress from the pirate line is available in this set. The legs and hair pieces are very usable as well. The windows in dark green, the large glass windows and doors may be a bit difficult to put into a castle MOC. The awnings will have some but limited uses. A few other small accessories may have a limited use as well, but there are very few of them.

What is included that I have noticed so far:
This set appears to be built on a tan 32x32 baseplate. These are tough to come by and go for over ten dollars on Bricklink.
More light bley, dark bley, and tan tiles than you can shake a stick at.
The new half arches in lt bley and tan. The number included is huge for a brand new element. (atleast 22 lt bley and 4 tan) I imagine these will be expensive for a while.
Lt bley cheese wedges atleast 16.
A whole lot of plates also in the primary 3 colors.
Tan 1x4 arches useful for tan castles.
Some light bley profile 1x2 bricks.
Light bley 1x1 rounds.
Tan 1x2 log bricks.
Even the flags and poles hanging outside of the store are immediately useful.
Last but not least. It appears that the entire back side of the stores walls are done in lt bley bricks. And 2 walls times 3 stories high will make for an aweful lot of lt bley bricks.

I imagine once I can see the brick count on the side of the box it will be even better than I am imagining. Here's to March when I can pick up a set that will be very useful for my castle building.

I think the "light bley half arches" are, in fact, white. Note the contrast with the light bley roof above them.
...and that's how Equestria was made!

White is alright... I'll bet you a dollar that the 2010 Summer/Fall *might be castles* line will have a bunch of them in light and dark bley, just to get us to buy them. As if we need a reason. :sly:

Hehe, yes, I agree. I would like to use them on something like this. I would not be surprised at all to see them in light bley before too long.

It certainly is a great castle parts pack, and this probably will be the first modualr house i will buy.

Actually, on the high resolution pictures it looks like the back wall of the two upper stories are made of tan brick, which is even better than bley since tan is much more expensive :D

I just ordered a Green gGrocer ( :D ), and i dont wish i had waited for this one instead.
To be honest, i think this building looks a little bit boring compared to both GG and Cafe Corner...

One more reason why I wish I had an unlimited supply of cash. I have long dreamed of buying two of each of this series of street/house sets -- one to build and display (and play), and one for parts for castle.

Alas for reality.

Yeah, same situation here. I've only purchased one of each thus far, and completely missed the fan-made one. My ideal ten copies of MMV also ended up being two. Space is also a consideration, not just money. :(

Still, this is a fantastic mini-theme they've created and I hope it continues well into the future.
