Collectable Minifigs and the Castle line

Post by Blueandwhite »

I'm not one to start a lot of new threads, but with the announcement of the new collectable line I got thinking; is it possible that we could see a future series of this line being dedicated to a specific theme such as Castle? This collectable line would be a great way to give us figures and accessories that don't necessarily fit in well with the main Castle theme (peasants, monks, bandits, historical figures, etc). The demographic for such a line would undoubtedly be considerably smaller than the recently announced collectable line, however I'm still going to put the idea out there.

LEGO, if the collectable line proves a success, how about a Castle oriented varriation in the future?

This would be nice. We could get:
Another forestman
troll hero
skeleton captain
the loyal knight
the humble farmer
dwarven smithie
dragon tamer (of the classic faction of the similar name)
Knight of fright (sound familiar?)
wolf warrior
falcon keeper
bull warrior
royal soldier
a merchant
etc.
To those who are about to Lego: toss me a few bricks.

As long as they aren't hard to get.
I do want an army of angry peasants wielding torches and pitchforks... and perhaps a nice little herd of cattle to scatter across the road to the evil wizard's tower they are intent on burning down.

What do you "Elf" people expect to see? A minifig with pointy ears jutting out of its head...? If I were to make an elf, I would probably just use a Forestmen minifig, or some customised one.

Anyway, I would like to see a fully armoured Black Knight (ALL in black): with a black armour chest piece, a black helmet with the pointy visor, black gloves, a black shield, and either a black classic sword or an "Excalibur" (as I call the Royal King's silver sword). The face? I think the face of that heavily-armoured Fright Knight would work well.

Ooh, Now you've got me thinkin'. This would be amazing. While I'd be overjoyed to see a group of new castle 'figs, I would also enjoy seeing what LEGO'd come up with for Pirates, Space, City, etc. However, with Castle it'd be relatively easy for TLG, seeing as for how much ground they've left untouched. But with the other themes... Of course, they'd have to maintain a certain level of balance, since it'd be weird if there were a Castle group and nothing else(besides the initial mixed group that we've seen). How would LEGO make the other theme groups without backtracking and making boring redoes of 'figs we've seen already?

Ah well, it's a good idea anyway,

Ok, seeing as the minifigure collection seems to be a way for TLG to offer characters and/or accessories they wouldn't normally offer in regular system sets and, for the purpose of this topic being a sixteen figure castle collection, my thoughts are:
1 King-red robe with a white fur collar with black spots and new crown
1 Queen-new hair and large sceptre
1 Sorcerer-(contrived, I know but...) new cone hat w/no brim
1 Monk/Scribe-quill pen
6 Knights- with different prints and accessory combos and may be a good way to introduce a couple of new helms
2 Male peasants-different prints and accessories
2 Female peasants
1 Forest-man/woodsman-Little John type
1 Giant-uses the new Toy Story legs and arms
1 Lord/Baron-nice civilian clothing and new hat
1 Lady/Baroness-see Lord
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

If such a line were to come about, I would prefer figs that aren't likely to show up in sets anytime in the conceivable future. Honestly, I think this is what makes the collectable figs so appealing to begin with. A minstrel for example, would be a great addition. A theif and a renaissance artist/scientist would be nice additions as well. A farmer, a squire and a nun would also be great. I could even see a few famous medieval persons like Joan of Arc or Shakespeare making an appearance.

Trolls orcs and knights are all fine, but they are pretty common to begin with. One or two of these sorts of figs would be okay, but I wouldn't want a line that was composed of figs that aren't that different from the ones we can already get, or ones that we will very likely see in the future.

A medieval historical figures line, you say? That sounds interesting, though I doubt LEGO would do it... But come on, can't you use your imagination? Where's the fun of making a minifig character if it's already determined exactly what it's supposed to look like? And isn't the forest man from the upcoming line a Robin Hood of sorts already?

So no, I don't think it would be a good idea if LEGO starts making historical people. I'd rather see more original LEGO characters with original names, instead.

Oh, and if they ever make a brown bear mold (which I REALLY hope they do!), how about an impulse/collectible set with a tamed bear (looking exactly like a wild one) and its master (a bear trainer)? Or even better, just the bear, a fish, and some little piece of dirt? Now that would be just fun-tastic! :spin:
