Is this even legal?
Is this even legal?
There is a newbie seller over on ebay trying to sell an Indiana Jones minifig for 4,500.00.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0494447054
I asked him a question: "How is this figure "rare" when you can purchase the whole set from Lego for only 89.99?"
His response: "This figure is from a set that is sold out, limited edition and will not
be made again."
Buyer beware! Back ordered till March @ LEGO SAH, but they had 'em at Wal Mart today. And if you look at completed auctions, the Indiana Jones figures are selling for less than twenty bucks each at most.
I don't know how many times he has relisted, or how much money he has lost, but ebay is not "free". Unless he finds a sucker soon, he'll be one himself.
Be careful, Ya'll!

Re: Is this even legal?
Technically, I'm pretty sure it's legal. The person has no buyer or seller feedback though...He even has a NO return policy. Man, who knew...

That made me laugh. To anyone who goes for this guy's schitck, c'mon down to Arizona, I've got some oceanfront property I'd love to sell you.You may see this for double or more elsewhere.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

To be fair, it's probably worth it when you consider the bonus accessories he is selflessly throwing in with the deal.
A MOC a day keeps the doctor away.
Re: Is this even legal?
If he follows suit to most of the other people who sell Lego on ebay, you'll get your "ultra rare" Indiana Jones fig and it will be missing half the accessories shown in the picture. I don't know how many times I've heard "I must have lost it when I put them in the package to be mailed out."

Re: Is this even legal?
Hmm, still no bids. I'm shocked that no one was moved by the following: "Even if you pay $4,500.01 it is yours!"

Re: Is this even legal?
He has relisted this item at least one time. So, he is currently in the hole for (at least) 8.00 worth of ebay insertion fees.
Maybe we should egg him on to relist the item over and over.

Re: Is this even legal?
This is all in good fun. But do we really have to wish this person bad will? What did he really do wrong anyway? Post an auction for an unreasonable amount of money? Ebay is LOADED with auctions like that. Pick a collectible, any collectible...and you will see. He isn't doing anything illegal.
I like to think that CC is a helpful and friendly community, not one that ridicules and wishes bad on others. That is my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

IMO, this guy deserves bad will because he is on eBay trying to rip people off. The fact that eBay is full of shysters doesn't make him any better.Bluesecrets wrote:This is all in good fun. The way I see it, this auction ends one of two ways:
1. Nobody buys it and the guy wastes his money on listing fees.
2. It is bought by mistake and somebody is badly ripped off.
With those options, #1 is the only positive outcome. I know people whose children have bid on expensive items behind their backs, and I myself have been ripped off by making a currency conversion mistake. Who knows how many other crazy circumstances could cause somebody to accidentally pay an exorbitant price for something on eBay? Listing an item like that can only be done with malicious intent.

Re: Is this even legal?
But do we as a community have to go around wishing bad for others? The purpose of eBay is to make money for something you don't want anymore. If you make a mistake, you make a mistake. We all do, pay it and move on. But to publicly wish others bad in our community? It is not very polite, friendly, or definitely does not reflect well upon the whole.IMO, this guy deserves bad will because he is on eBay trying to rip people off.

No, we should not be creating threads to speak ill of anybody. Such behavior is beneath the standards this community should aspire to. However, as I explained, defending this eBayer is akin to wishing his potential victim ill-will. Ideally we would not be talking about this seller at all.
