Possibility of Elf Minifigures.

Post by TriUmp »

Hey guys.

I've started work on trying to make a few elf minifigures, though I must say I've become stuck. :?
As I plan to sell what I make, I can't say I'm particularly aware of what people wish to see in an elf minifig.
Although I've almost completed work on one design, I'm not sure of what sort of variety to include.

So, if you are interested in elves, could you please offer suggestions for such things as preference of skin colour, features or tribe they should belong to, and whether you'd just be happy with a few female warriors, or a tribe of males, females, elders etc.

Please keep in mind though I have my own style in creating decals. They minifigures will not appear exactly as TLG would make them.

Thanks.

I personally believe that yellow is the best fig color, and loathe flesh, but people can make fleshies look good.
So I say, do what you want, but I would like you more if you did yellow. :D

People have made pointy ears, such as http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1678810, http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1678816, http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1006670, I don't really like the design of those figs, but I hope you could use it to do better. :)

Another solution is (a) helmet(s), and I don't really like that either, because then they might as well be a weird knight and not an elf. :?

Can't wait to see them!

I like the idea of lego elves. There really isn't any advice I could give you that hasn't already been given, but if you start selling them, contact me w/ a picture of it, and depending on the results, I may purchase several. :D
I am an alien, here to eat you all, regurgitate you, gingerly poke your remains, and then devour them. FUN, RIGHT?!

My standard is:

Yellow/Flesh for Wood Elves (Sylvan) & High Elves (Highborn)
Sand Blue for Night Elves (Kaldorii)
Dark (Bluish) Gray for Dark Elves (Drow)

I believe we have just touched on the whole reason that TLG stayed away from this project.

That being said, I have faith in your skills Armothe.

I agree about yellow being the only proper color for High elves or Wood elves. I also agree with the dark bley for Dark elves (Drow).

A little elf humor

Wood elves? I don't think they would.
Witch elves? Those ones right over there.
Sea elves? Yeah, I see em.
High elves? Yeah, you know what they are doing.

I think the pointed ears stuck out of the head looks kind of weird. Maybe they'd look better if the pointed ears were cut out of the hair. So that the head colour showed through.

That's funny!

Hey, has TLC put the kibosh on the "elves?" It's been a while since they appeared on the map showing the "elflands." A shame really, I wanted to see what new peices they would have come up with.

As for making elves with what we have I see two chief directions to turn; Tolkien-inspired Elves, and the more generic "elfs." I don't think there is a right vs. wrong way to make any elf (nor any other fig for that matter). I have experimented with fleshies for the "Named" elves like Tolkien's. The Forestmen have always been elves in my Legoverse. I will be using the Gungan warrior torso as elves soon.

Come up with your own design, and share it with us. Don't be afraid, we'll be kind when we rip you

They're done. I believe they were emphatic at one of the recent Cons in saying no elves.

In another topic, one of our esteemed administrators (Bruce I believe) said in reference to Lego not making religious architecture "When Lego lets you down, it's CCC to the rescue". Well the same can be said that when Lego drops the ball, customizers to the rescue :sly: So here is to our emphatic "Yes" to picking up the slack.

With the annoncment (and photos) of the new 2010 Lego Castle sets, They do not appear to contain any elves, and in fact appear as though they are moving away from the fantasy theme with only one fantasy styled set "The Wizard". (80's here we come! :D ) So no I do not belive elves will be coming any time soon even though that Lego magazine with the castle map showed that Lego may do it.

I've liked elves since LOTR, but I am not able to make elves. I think that Lego elves shouldn't have pointy ears, could it looks pretty bad in my opinion. Otherwise they should be very small. Elves shouldn't wear a helmet, just blond hear like Legolas (like Kevin1990 posted). I prefer wood elves btw.

I agree with these color choices and wish that someone clever enough would make/sell them. It would be the one exception to using yellow heads in Castle settings for me.

I also agree with Armothe's choice, with the addition of fleshies for blood elves.
