Monthly Challenge #2: Chess

Post by JoshWedin »

Hey All!

The first challenge was a great success! Sorry for the delay on this challenge...it crept up on me. I thought we would go back to a theme that Tony used for a contest years ago. Chess, that is. Build anything chess related. It can be a full set, one side, just the board, or just one piece. As long as it involves chess in some way, it counts.

Again, remember, there are no rules for these challenges. Give it a whirl and see what you come up with. Check mate!

I'm excited for this challenge, My family and I used to always make our own chess sets and battle it out.
Edit: I've built my first entry. Here it is:

Yes, I did and still do.

That doesn't mean I don't think you are nuts. ;) Actually, it was a creative move. Keep it up.

I haven't posted anything in a while but for once I'm working on something that may coincide! Going by the lose rules I might be okay otherwise it was fun to post. I figured early Victorian has some legitimacy in castle :D .

Anyway I've been working on a Chess set somewhat based a on the film Zulu Dawn. I thought I'd throw some of my favorite pieces up for the chess challenge which would be the;

British Queen

British Pawn C

British Pawn A

Here's the flickr folder with the rest of them and some of my other ideas:

Enjoy!

Hmmm...I don't know what I'll do anymore because I saw this on the Brothers-brick and it has the exact same thing that I was gonna do. I guess I'll pick something else... (It was a cool moc nonetheless  )

That is a very cool MOC. Ironically, I also started working on a set in the scale as that, the night before it was posted. Don't let that stop you. I'm going on with mine.....as well as a few other things. ;)

I seriously had the same base as the Zulu Dawn made for my Crown chess set. Haha.

Hey All,

Here's one of mine. I'm working on at least one more. Its a pretty busy month, so I'll probably only get one more done.

The board lifts off of this and all the pieces fit inside. I'll take more pictures later.

I decided to try a slightly different interpretation...

I wanted to emphasise the idea of the chessboard as a battle-field - not really sure if it quite works but hey, it was just a doodle

Hi, guys, I'm new at this forum, although I regularly visit the CC website.
I also see that there are some really interesting threads here, so I will check those out too.

Anyhow, my friends suggested that I upload my recent chess-set here.
It is just a coincidence that I built it now, as I didn't know about this challenge.
Those little Belville crowns sparked the idea, then I remembered a chess set my Dad had and started building.
I'm also in the process of building several other variations.
I hope you guys like it. It was a fun built.
