New forum?

Post by Forestboy »

Hello mods and admins,

I was just thinking that it would possibly be nice to have a some-what of an expansion to the "General Lego" forum section.

That new section would be general Lego MOCs.

Now, I know this is a specifically Castle forum, but the general Lego forum does tend to be crowded with MOCs than it does actual general Lego topics. The general Lego forum tag-line thingy does say, "Discussion of general LEGO topics". This new forum could even be a sub-forum of general Lego.

I'm not sure if this was an earlier issue here, or it would just be too much of a hassle, or something...but it would be a nice place off to the side to have.

Let me know your thoughts,
Thanks,
~FB~

It's certainly worth discussing.

On a side note I came into this thread fully prepared to give you a beat down, thinking this was going to be another "off-topic" forum request. You just earned some brownie points for that not being so. ;)

LOL. I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the thread.

It is an interesting thought, but in my opinion not needed. In the past week there have been seven active threads in 'general LEGO', which doesn't seem so much activity that things get buried. In the past month, if you erase out the ten or so threads I started on cow-related topics, there are 21 active threads. I'd rather have that than break it up into two forums that each get an average of one new thread every three days.

That's what I was thinking before I posted this topic, but I'd thought I'd throw it out there to see what anyone thought. Plus, there are tons General Lego MOCs in that forum and it would be hard to go through and move all of them to the new one.

Exactly! I had thought of this before, but was afraid to suggest it to the admins. But anyway, wind don't you add a poll to see what people think? If anything will get the admins to change the General LEGO forum, a majority of members saying to change it will. :D

I just added a poll to the topic! Of course it doesn't mean we'll get anything changed, but it's a start. :) Thanks for the suggestion.

It might be a good idea if the site was bigger. But frankly, it's just not busy enough to warrant it.

At the moment I rarely post non-castle mocs here, simply because i've always viewed "General Lego" as "General Lego Discussion". I'm sure if it did exist people would post there.

Well, we are one of the biggest LEGO sites out there, and I think we are more than big and busy enough to warrant it. I respect your opinion, but I hope they make a new category. I think a lot of new, very talented builders* would join and get the place busier. :D

He IS a member of Classic Castle.

I don't think there is a need for this forum. I agree fully with Bruce. This is a site about CASTLES. We do not need more off topic forums.

He is? What is his nickname? I agree with you about the "castles" thing, but we already have the General LEGO forum. Are you against that forum too? Why not have a thread for creations? Where do we draw the line? I do not see the difference, but I respect your opinion.

And I quote myself...
Forestboy wrote:Now, I know this is a specifically Castle forum, but
Anyway, I was just thinking that it would be a sub-forum, kind of like the BrickForge forums, how in the Artisan Gallery they have sub-forums for Portrait Hall, and the Minniquinn Museum, but still have normal topics in it too.

Ultimately though, I'm going to have to say that there really isn't a point to it now. If we had tons and tons of members posting everyday (like Robin Hood said), then it would be necessary, but until then, I don't think we need one. I wasn't going to push for one anyway, but...yeah. :) Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was curious and thought it might help a little.

Just my two cents. :)

Are you against that forum too?
One word. Yes.
I think a lot of new, very talented builders* would join and get the place busier
We have an abundance of HIGHLY talented builders. The way you said that kind of infers that we don't have them now. If you have any doubt, go look at all the past years of the CCC. Some of the most famous builders are members. We do not need another forum or sub-forum to attract anyone. What we need is intelligent conversation about interesting topics, good quality reviews of sets and MOC's, and understanding that sometimes during the year things slow down while people's lives get busy.

I meant very talented, non-castle builder. You can never have enough talented builders.
