Blue, chillax ;)

A (more visible) general MOCs section might very well bring new, talented users to the site: But unless they convert to building castle because they joined - and I think very, very few will - what's the point? CC isn't a general lego site.

I've always considered posting non-castle creations in the General LEGO section something that we, the existing members, do to show other members "what else" we do with lego - not a showcase for people who aren't already castle-building forum members.

If I was going to argue against it, I would say this exact same thing. I can see this point easily. I think however, that quite a few would convert to castle-buiilding. But that is just my opinion, and this argument is probably better than mine. I can't believe that Blue isn't in favor of the General LEGO sub-forum. Oh, well, I guess people will continue to post their non-castle MOCs in that sub-forum. :) I'm content. I don't post any creations myself because of a poor-quality camera, but I always enjoy others' builds, castle or non-castle.

-snip- what's the point? CC isn't a general lego site
.

Maybe Troy could create a new, general LEGO site! :) That'd be great! After all, there is already a LEGO Pirate's site in the Classic-Castle family.

I am not in favor of an additional. I did not say I was not in favor of what is already in place.

You did, because that's what he asked when you said no, but we've cleared that up then.

Eh, something more like C-C is what I had in mind. Easy to use, really modern forum is what I'm looking for. From what I've seen,(I could be wrong) LUGNET is not that active. Something more active is what I want; you only took seconds to respond to my post here. I like a busy, always-changing forum.

-cough- Eurobricks, then -cough-

The thing is, it's like you're being completely ignorant of history here. Back in the day there was one big all-themes community site, Lugnet (well, that's after alt.toys.lego and rec.toys.lego). CC was created because of a dissatisfaction with that model, and a desire to create a theme-specific site (as were other themed sites). As a result, we've seen much more growth in the castle theme, with innovative building and actually more conversation, than we had when it was one big conglomeration. I would also say the same about other themes as well. The reason we have a vibrant community here is because of this move to have a focus. The AFOL community as a whole is highly interlinked, with people being members across multiple forums, and general blogs like the BB to help point us all to cool stuff, not to mention Flickr and Brickshelf, also fests, so there is still a lot of cross-pollination between castlers and spacers and trainheads and mech guys and customizers and SW fans and pirates etc etc etc. We don't need to try to return to an all-inclusive model. We don't need to try and drag people away from the forums they normally frequent by trying to be all things.

Also, one of the problems back on lugnet was 'overcompartmentalized dorkism' - as there was a great variety of forums and sub-forums, there was always a lot of meta-conversation about what topics go where etc. At times there was more of this than actual conversation. Subdividing forums needlessly leads to this.

BTW, Richard, please feel free to post on any non-castle LEGO topic, including your MOCs, in the general LEGO forum. That is its purpose, as described in the FAQ etc. Perhaps a better tag in the Board Index page would help here. Instead of "Discussion of general LEGO topics", maybe we should say "MOCs and sets from all non-castle themes and general LEGO news", or something.

Not old enough to join. :( Why in the world would a LEGO SITE have an age limit and allow cussing!? It won't hurt anybody to stop swearing on a LEGO site; we do just fine here on C-C without a bunch of immature foul language tainting the friendly feel of the site. I also noticed that when sites have this rule of no-cussing, they tend to have much more intelligent members.

EDIT: Yes, I know this sounds like a debate. Sorry, I love to debate; I might even end up being a... politician. I love organizing my arguments and presenting them. Once I even debated Napoleonics with an adult, French-speaking, anti-Napoleon lawyer. It lasted for about two hours and it had no productive outcome as we just kept canceling out the other's arguments; please bear with me in this thread, even though I am sure it won't get that bad.

EDIT: On second thought, considering the departure of Forestboy, I have become the Alamo. I have fought a hopeless battle for the creation of a General LEGO Creations forum, and it is time to surrender. Maybe sometime later, we will have that forum. But, until then, the Admins win. Oh, well, C-C is still great without the creation of a new forum.

Agreed. Both sides of the argument are both strong, and it was great to read. Considering that 60% say "nay" to the making for said forum, it's not going to happen. Thanks everyone!

There is a forum on CC to post non-castle LEGO MOC's, right here

As others have kindly pointed out, such a change simply serves to dilute the qualities that make Classic-Castle a unique site for AFOLs. Bruce already pointed out two good ones for those who are interested in such things. Personally, I cringe at the thought of this forum being overrun by non-castle folk looking for another outlet to show their works. Other theme-specific sites are operated in the same way. Forbbidencove and Classic-Space both focus exclusively on their respective themes. Even if the traffic is pretty slow on CC these days, I'm still in favour of keeping things the way they are.

Not to be argumentative, but I am going to respectfully disagree with you here; not everybody is old enough to join EB or C-P. I will have to wait about two-and-a-half years if I decide to join them, and I will still be opposed to the immature cussing. :( Probably about half of C-C members are not old enough, either. I wish people would remember the TFOLs. We are good builders, too. I am not great, but I could name a list of terrific TFOLs who could out-build some of the actual LEGO set designers. But anyway, I understand your point about how C-Cers should be castle fans, and it makes good sense.

And you are a member here on CC, where there is a place to post your non-Castle LEGO MOCs, in the General LEGO forum.
For example, only about a quarter of my MOCs are castle related (probably even less), the other 75+% I do post here, but in the General LEGO forum. That's where they go at the moment.

The point is, if that forum gets so cluttered with new threads with MOCs and other set news, there would be room for a seperate forum for MOCs. At the moment though, if there's 10 MOCs posted a month, why would it need a seperate forum. Any MOCs that you build that don't fit in the Castle MOCs section, post them in General LEGO and people will read them and reply.

Like I said, I like to debate. :) I hope I didn't come across in the wrong way, though. I always try to be respectful; I am not the "LOL! Ur wrong dude!" type. Anyway, remember that I already surrendered. I was mainly just talking in the last post about how it is unfair that some can't join EB. Well, see you at my "location."

Quick! Everyone, go post as many non-castle MOCs in the general lego forum as fast as you can so it can be as crowded as possible! Just kidding. :)

Napoleon wrote:I was mainly just talking in the last post about how it is unfair that some can't join EB.

Well, there will always be rules in life whether or not you can join a certain thing. Like how you have to be 16 years of age to get a driver's license because they don't want 10 year olds crashing into things. Just like how EB member's don't want 10 year olds crashing into their forums and messing things up. I think it is pretty fair. I think it's a privilege that we're even allowed on C-C.

But yes, there probably should be some sort of General Forum that TFOLs could freely join (And no we're not going to go start one) (and we're not going to go on the Lego.com Messaging Board :) ). Besides, isn't Lugnet been described as a graveyard? :tasty: But I definitely see both sides of the argument (Bruce and AC vrs. Napoleon),
