Stop Motion Sword Fight

Post by kelderic »

Hey guys! It's been a while since I posted anything, first was busy with college, then since I've gotten back, work has been hectic. I finally managed to get something done, which I've been thinking about for a while.

Any comments or criticism would be appreciated. If I get comfortable enough with the animation, I am considering doing the last Evolution of a Trebuchet as a stop motion video, since all that is left is the assembly/construction scene.

Hey Kelderic,

Well done. I particularly like the part where he tosses the sword from one hand to the other. The blood spilling out is also nice.

Well, I think the figure animation is really nicely done. It's good and smooth if not a bit slow. Also your fight choreography is outstanding IMO. The camera seems a bit shaky when it's revolving around the characters but I couldn't even begin to tell you how to fix that. Well done!

Very nice! I've seen a few good stop-motion Lego films, but this one stands out as one of the better ones.

Thanks Bruce! The blood spilling out actually only got thrown in because I had to redo the ending, to make the scene longer to fit with the music. I'm still not really happy with it to be honest, seems like the song just cuts off and doesn't fit well, but ya live ya learn.

I agree with you there. The problem I ran into was finding a way to hold the camera steady. What I'd like to do is get a stand or something to hold the camera, and then something under the very center of the baseplate, so I can spin it more evenly. Maybe someday I can do a Matrix like spin as time freezes in the middle of a kick.

Thank you! There are some that are way better than mine, though. Several that inspired me are: Frozen Flame, Greese, Star Wars, and my favorite, 8-Bit trip

Maybe a mini tripod? My wife has a portable lazy susan from Ikea that was fairly inexpensive that may suit your purpose and if you don't have an Ikea near you, I'm sure any place that sells kitchen ware would have one.

That is amazing! I've tried stop-motion before and it is nowhere near as good. I really liked the sword toss, that added a realistic effect.

And so he slipped into the forest, vanishing without a trace, leaving his pursuers lost without ideas, while he went to finish his MOC's.

Wow, that was really fun! I like the humor in it; it really added to the whole experience. And the intro with O Fortuna pleased me a lot. Actually, I enjoyed all the music and thought it went well with the action. How long does it take to make something like that?

I was considering something like that, but I don't want it to be visible. I'm doing to use a white sheet next time, I'm thinking that one of those rotating 4x4 bricks attached to a plate (I looked for a picture on Bricklink, but couldn't find it) velcro-ed to the top of the sheet, and to the baseplate, with the sheet velcro-ed to the table directly below, would work without being so visible.

I enjoyed making that part, although I had to edit the top of a few pictures because my fingers were showing. :o

Thank you for the kind words. =D It took me 3 days, several hours each day. Maybe 10 hours total, including the video editing at the end.
