BrickCon 2010: Sigfig Photoshoot Signups!

Post by plums_deify »

The lists below are for book keeping purposes only, so no worries if your figure hasn't moved from one list to the other. This simply provides a quick reference for those helping out. :)

The following figs have been constructed or obtained:
Elephant Knight
troll
Babyjawa
forest boy
J1A3L5
Bruce N H
Shadow Viking
Azaghal
Castlelord
porschecm2
RickRicks
Albatros Viking
Maedhros

The following figs have signed up:

Hello, Classic-Castle!

With all the whispers of the upcoming BrickCon 2010, it's now time to put the all call out for your sigfigs.

For newcomers to the community, your sigifig is your plastic representation of yourself. This does not have to be castle-y for our purposes; not everyone has a castle oriented sigfig. While preferred, it's certainly not required. :)

The ultimate goal is to get as many sigfigs from CC as possible, line em all up, and take a picture. Pretty simple, right? Here's a look at previous photos:
BrickFest 2007
BrickCon 2007
BrickCon 2008
BrickFest 2009

And finally, BrickCon 2009:
Image

There are ALL sorts of figs there. It's a ton of fun. Don't worry, though: sigfigs will be treated with the utmost respect, and will not be placed in compromising situations. Mostly. Probably. Then again, Josh is in charge of Castle (with help from his minions) and I’m coordinating the photoshoot, so who knows?

I try as hard as I possibly can to make sure that every fig posted in this thread is present in the photo. I’m not perfect, and conventions are chaotic. I guarantee you ever single figure is built, but it can be awfully difficult . Sometimes it’s hard to see your figure since there are so many figs, but I can assure you, everyone will be represented. (Keep in mind that LEGO is not an easy medium to photograph under the best conditions, and this is taken at a convention. With lots of bad lighting.)

FOR ATTENDEES: Please be sure to bring your sigfig with you! The photo will be taken Friday night, after the Classic-Castle dinner and before the LEGO Store event.

FOR NON ATTENDEES: You have a choice! You can either A) Post in this thread or send me a PM detailing what your fig looks like, or B) if you have a custom fig, you can send it to me and I'll be sure it gets returned to you.

For Option A: You MUST provide picture reference for your fig. For example, my sigfig is this:

Image

It's a clear photo, and it's easy to reference the torso, face, hair, and legs. If you don't have a photo and aren't able to take one, please browse either Peeron or Bricklink and give us the references. This makes it easier on us, the attendees, to construct your figs. If you have a particularly rare piece for any of it, please also consider alternatives: If your sigfig uses the forestwoman torso, for example, or the white ninja, please give us a cheaper, easier-to-find alternative. With the massive collections between the attendees, we should be able to construct your fig, but we'd like a back-up plan.

For Option B: Please send me a PM, and I will let you know what snail-mail address to send your fig to. If at all possible, Option A would be best, because it has less room for the USPS to err and lose your fig. :) But if you really want YOUR fig to be there, we'll do what we can. Just shoot me a PM.

After BrickCon, photos will be posted in a myriad of sites. I'll have mine in my flickr account, and I'm sure plenty will be on various image hosting sites that are used by the community. You’ll find most pictures from BrickCon in the Flickr Group.

Pleas post photos of your fig prior to SEPTEMBER 18, 2010. This is earlier than before; it will give us more time to construct them all. If you are sending me your fig, PM me no later than September 15. I must receive the fig prior to September 30.

(Attendees: shoot me a PM to let me know if you would be able to help construct SigFigs. I'd like to avoid duplicates, but I'd rather have those then not at all. Thanks!)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Just post em' here. :D

Hey,

My fig would love to attend:

Image

Basically this:
Image

With dumbledore's head and a brown Jedi hood. Black rubber band for the belt. OTOH, he does like to play dress-up, and with this year's theme, perhaps this hood would be more appropriate:

Count me in!

Image
As close as you can get to this would be great. :)
I think most of it should be clear from the photo, but just in case:

-The cape is a black, scalloped cape from the Batman line.
-The hip/belt piece is from the 07 castle Necromancer; anything in red, silver or (unprinted) black would be fine, though.
-The head is a black skeleton head, also from the 07 castle sets.
-The shield is from the Vikings chess set and AFAIK never appeared in other sets. The more common red and black viking shield would work just as well, though.

Thanks (again) for doing this (again), Caylin (and any helpers). Much appreciated. One day I'll try to go myself. :)
...and that's how Equestria was made!

Being rather new on the scene, I have some questions: Is this for anybody who is posting here at CC? And since I don't have a sigfig, could I just make up one? And do people ever change their sigfigs? (Are you stuck with what you pick? Or can you change it if you think of a better one, or if a new minifig comes out?)

Actually, I do have a minifig that I've used in my MOCs... hmm. There might be some possibilities there.

Anyway, thanks for the help. 8)

I'm in for helping build figs.

Katie: are you coming to brickcon? I'm sure my wife would love to talk cakewrecks with you.
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Hi Trevor,

Cake wrecks are awesome; I'd love to discuss them with your wife. :-)

I want to come, and the closer we get, and the more I hear about it, the more I want to go. I'm not sure how well it would go down with the rest of the family, though. Maybe I could get a day in; is that generally acceptable convention etiquette, to just go for a day? And does anyone who register for the main part get to bring MOCs? I could totally put the ones I've made back together.... they're small enough. Bah, I should find a more suitable topic for all these questions. I think there is one around here somewhere. :-)

Yes

No

Yes

Most people have an avatar here on the forum of their sigfig, that's how you can easilly recognise which fig belongs to who. I also use the little fabuland cat from my avatar in all of my MOCs somewhere. A lot of people do this with their sigfigs.
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

If you want to come for a single day, you can--but the four days each have unique bits that make the whole thing worth it. The opening, the Keynotes, the Prizes...it's all a blast, and a great way to get to know your fellow AFOLs.

Yep! More info on the community display can be found here.

The link above is fine, but so is this one. They're both BrickCon related. :)

Hmm? First I've heard of a theme. Luckily, my SigFig also has a ninja version:

(If this theme is not ninja I shall be very embarrassed.)

Head is this, although this might also be used if necessary.

Well, since my chances of going are in the "Need a Miracle" range, I'll be sending my sigfig with Trevor.

Oooh, man, I've been given the "okay" to attend for a day, maybe two.... which raises a whole other bunch of questions and some nerves...

Totally understandable. :) Attending your first Con is nerve-wracking...until you get there and realize it's really all okay. We are old hands at this, so ask away. We'll walk you through it. If you don't want to ask publically, feel free to send a PM. You will have a blast, no matter how many days you attend.

Thanks to everyone for helping to answer my questions. I really do hope this hasn't been an inappropriate topic in which to ask some of them. I've been reading a bit about conventions, and I'm sure I'll be ready to ask some questions sooner than later.

Cheers! :-)

Not so much a theme for the whole con, but the brothers brick are organizing a collaborative "Big in Japan" display. So expect lots of Japanese MOCs - mecha, anime, architecture, and of course ninjas.

^ Just FYI the "official" theme of the convention is: Tales of the Brick!
