Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
UPDATE:
We will have power at the Castle tables and several of us are lighting up our MOCs. It would be cool if lots of the MOCs were lit up. If you can, add some lights!

Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
Alright, I'll note my contribution here: I have a rather large castle, 20"x30", with one corner section that opens into water. (I'd show some pictures but I'm not done with it yet and feel paranoid about showing a work in progress.) Anyway, the castle could work very well against the edge of water/on the coastline, etc.
I'd also be willing to contribute towards a village, or make some heavy forest sections, if anyone's also interested.
Oh, and lights sound awesome! I'll have to make something just for that!

Sounds very cool! I will need the actual dimensions in studs, along with information about your edges. Like how thick they are (the rest of the layout is one baseplate plus one brick thick) and where exactly your water is on the edge.Sir_Darc wrote:Alright, I'll note my contribution here: I have a rather large castle, 20"x30", with one corner section that opens into water. We can always use help on the village. Sounds like several people are in on that. More is always welcome.I'd also be willing to contribute towards a village, or make some heavy forest sections, if anyone's also interested.

Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
I've got some village to bring. I'm actually getting to a point where I need to lay my stuff out on the floor and do a bit of a pre-setup so I know how much area this is going to take up.
Is anyone interested in bringing a a tournament tent? I'm still thinking about having my 'lord' be hosting a tourny outside his keep. I'd need you to make tents aprox. 10x10, a knight, a squire and a horse.
Josh: do you have one of those nice pics of your baseplates like you did last year?

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
What do you mean by a tournament tent? Do you have any examples? (I have one of those old tournament sets from 1988 or so... but it's not tent-like.)
I'm a novice, so I don't know much, but I do have some castle-y parts that I could probably put together somehow and bring.... nothing fabulous, but hey... it'd be fun.

Tournament tents would be fantastic!
I can build those. They're small. It'd be great.
...is anyone building a hill?

I will probably be able to put together some hillocks and terrain. Nothing too huge as my travel space will be limited, but I can assemble some hills.plums_deify wrote:...is anyone building a hill?

Excellent. It's easier to shoot figs on a hill.
And in any other context, that sentence would sound REALLY odd.

Now that is funny....plums_deify wrote:Excellent. It's easier to shoot figs on a hill.

I'm planning a fairly substantial island. It might also work as a shootin' gallery.

Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
I decided to make a crude drawing to show the layout:JoshWedin wrote:Sounds very cool! I will need the actual dimensions in studs, along with information about your edges. The set is currently built on a plain baseplate, but I can modify it to match the baseplate-plus-brick method. Most of the edges are either natural cliffs or flat stone walls, and I'd only need to build up the area around the gate. Hope that helps!

Re: Castle at BrickCon 2010
Hey, I work for a video production company, and we tend to forget (often) that the word 'shoot' isn't always the best way to phrase 'film' in public...plums_deify wrote:Excellent. It's easier to shoot figs on a hill.
And in any other context, that sentence would sound REALLY odd.
Case in point: The other day I was describing a 'shot' to my co-worker whilst walking down the street. As we passed a group of (assumed) moms we just had to be saying something about 'shooting' kids. It's a good thing we live in a small town, because they eventually recognized us and figured out what we were talking about.
Aaanyways, on to the actual point of my reply...
Yes, I can arrange that, and with the sigfig shoot in mind I can mold the hill to work for that. Keep me up to date on the rough number of figs, and I'll work that into the design. In fact, you've just inadvertently given me an idea for a sweet addition to out layout. I'll have to go make sure I can make it work, but I think we will have a great background for that.
(Josh, I'll make sure to discuss that with you later... )

Not yet. I will after I actually start putting brick together.Ye Olde Republic wrote:Josh: do you have one of those nice pics of your baseplates like you did last year?
Perfect! A drawing like that is very helpful. Thanks!Sir_Darc wrote:I decided to make a crude drawing to show the layout:

There is no standard. Generally they fit on a 16x16 baseplate. Its just a place for a knight to keep his gear during a tournament. Pretty easy build, but with lots of potential for greatness. Some of your designs might be adaptable to tent walls.
I wish you could too. Get with the program, man!Shadowviking wrote:I wish I could come and get lit up with you guys.

Thanks for the links to the tournament tents; some of those looked pretty exciting. I do think they'd be pretty fun to experiment with.
