6054 Forestmen's Hideout Redux

Postby AaronD » Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:00 pm

My re-imagining of Lego set 6054. I maintained all of the distinct features both playability and aesthetic but chose to change the color of the roof from blue to green opted not to mount shields on the outside or run a red flag. None of these things screamed hideout to me.

All of the angles and play features can be found in the set.

Bravo!! I am defiantly inspired by this. Good call to omit the red flag and shields. I do think if you hadn't said it was a redo, that it would not be as recognizable as what you intended. I do however think this is better than the original. You got me wondering how many I can build now.

I like it as well. I think in some ways it captures the 'feel' that the forestmen always held for me, kinda a robin hoodian sort of scene. Nice work!

Inside is sort of hard to see. Any more interior details or photos?

As has been said before, I probably wouldn't recognize what this MOC is supposed to be based on if you hadn't said. That being the case, it's still an excellent MOC. It looks much more secretive and "hideable" than the official version. As always, I love the round target piece...

That will fit in nicely! I like that you omitted the flags and shields because they don't really scream out "HIDEOUT!". Too funny. Brown is a nice update too. It really looks like an old hollowed out tree with a bunch of hoarding nailed to it. Imagine the sheriff finding this place and saying something like; "Nice tree fort Robin."

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

This is cool. I like the fact that you tried to keep playability in mind when you built this. I keep wavering in my opinion of those old Forestmen sets -- sometimes I think they would have been better if the trees had been made brown -- other days I think that the black trunks actually might have lended to the atmosphere of a dark, murky forest. Either way, I like your interpretaion. Keep up the good work.

P.S. Just curious, do you have any idea roughly how many pieces you used in your MOC?

Wow. At first glance, it's a tad difficult to make out the hideout parts, just as it should be.

Very nice redux. I'm only vaguely familiar with the original set, but it looks like you hit the nail on the head. :)

I think that the 6054 Forestman's Hideout set is one of the most inspiring set TLG has released in their history and this MOC stay true to the original design while making it a bit more realistic. Nice job. I also tried to build my own version of this set; here's a link to look at it if you want.

^ I really dig your re-imagining of this set as well. I'd like to redux my redux sometime to have the height and details that one that size has.

The offset of the tree is really nice.

Hey, nice work. I had been wondering lately whether it's possible to build 6054, 6066 and 6067 6071 with brown. Neat redux though!
