Lost! A vampire's castle.

Post by proudlove »

By now, many of you have seen this one. It was displayed for the first time at Brickcon this year and won Best in Castle (thanks everyone!) It's loosely based on a castle from the Barckyardigans on NickJr.

From the Backyardigans? Really? First off, nice inspiration. Secondly, how come I haven't seen that episode? (I guess it's because we don't get Nick Jr., but just see a few rare episodes on demand....)

Thirdly, this was fantastic. I especially noticed the cheese slope roof when I was at BrickCon, but it's all really great. A well-deserved win. Congratulations!

Fourthly.... what kind of driver would stop at a blood-encircled castle to ask for directions? I think that young couple needs a better driver. :D

Brilliant creation. A true castle masterpiece. The colors are very effective.

This is simply gorgeous. I loved seeing this castle! Hearing the story behind it, too, with the cartoon was pretty fun.

The gargoyles are one of my favorite details. Flying goats!

I told you at BrickCon, I told you on Flickr, now I'ma tell you here...GREAT work, man!!! This is one of those MOCs that just emits the right vibes in the right way. The shapely base"plate" works very well, and give the whole thing a great color to contrast from.

It was a pleasure to view this up close at BrickCon, a real treat! And I still love those little gargoyles.

I take that back. I just now saw the Backyardigans episode with the castle. Very recognizable. That whole episode had fun things I wanted to build with LEGO. I guess you can get inspiration from the strangest of things. ;-)

I like this MOC. To me, it looks like it should be in a Tim Burton flick or in Salem, Mass. during the witch trials. No doubt it won Best In Castle. Nice Job.

Thanks everyone for the kind feedback. Katie, all these poor schmoes that aren't forced to watch amazing kids shows like the Backyardigans are missing out on a tonne of inspiration for stuff like this. So much amazing art!

LOL! That reminds me to go back and look for those pics; I don't even know if I still have them in my photostream anymore. I don't know what else I can add that I didn't get to tell you in person but I really loved this MOC. The ridgeline of the roof, the gargoyles, the tower on the rear and the large window on the gables of the hall, all very very nice! Congrats on Best of Castle!

Hmmm, were these the pics?

Probably not but those are the only ones I remember uploading.

No, it's not from that episode, is that the Mighty Knights castle? Mine is from the 'Scared of You' episode.

Edit: I was able to grab a screen cap from the DVD of the inspiration.

They're showing the "Scared of You" episode on our On Demand cable stuff this month, probably for Halloween. The vampire's castle is really pretty sweet looking, though the inside wasn't that fantastic, unless you like collapsing staircases (which some people probably would -- I think it freaked my kids out a little).

Thanks for sharing the screencap -- it flashes by pretty quickly in the episode. ;-)

Oh yeah that's a great episode! We love that one. Thanks for the pic Nathan, I may just have to have a try myself.
Yes, my pics are from Mighty Knights and there's also a pretty neat village and castle in the Giant Problem episode.
