I wonder what the logic is behind releasing this set on January 1, 2011, a mere one week AFTER Christmas. But between this and the Burrow set, it is nice to see them come out with something in this series other than another Hogwarts castle, and another Hagrid's Hut.
Think back...MMV, the big pirate ship...and now this...all previewed at Brickcon..all had release dates in January.
It's so you can spend your Christmas cash on them, of course! :D

The new january playthemes usually hit the shelves before christmas, but this is a D2C item which is from a completely separate department. I can't recall now if Medieval Market Village and the Imperial Flagship were each released before christmas in their respective years. I was talking about it with Bluesecrets at BrickCon and according to her they hadn't, but I believed to remember they had. I can't remember now though :( must be my age.

For me, I think this set looks great. The techniques that they're using looks so cool like the tilted arches, or the snot glass window of the Leaky Cauldron (or whatever black and dark green building). A bit too high (for a TFOL), as far as price goes, but the buildings are very nice, as are the minifigs.

I went back and looked through my order history on SaH and I ordered my MMV on December 28, 2008, and I'm pretty sure I ordered it the day it came out. I seem to remember they released it after Christmas, but it was a few days before Jan 1st. I don't remember about the Imperial Flagship as I bought it at a Lego store in the middle of last January.

As far as Diagon Alley goes, I think it looks awesome and all the new pieces and figs look great. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it, but the new HP line is really exciting and I think Lego will draw a lot of HP fans in, especially with the release of the new movie next month.

There are simply too many 2010 sets to have to worry about this fantastic set until January 2011. Bless Lego and all that is holy that they've given me a breather until after the first of the year. This way, I can pay my X-Mas bills first and then enjoy going broke again afterward.

especially since the series went to fleshie minifigs.
I am not a fleshie fan by any stretch of the imagination, but Harry Potter figs, whether they are fleshies or not ARE worth the money. The female wigs and torsos alone are worth the money, and time to gather them.
I'm curious as to why the HP fleshies are worth it? I haven't looked at them specifically, but the wigs are awesome... Bellatrix Lestrange's hair especially.

Almost all HP figs that are not the three main characters are worth a fortune. Bellatrix's hair is amazing..but not typical LEGO wig material. HP female torsos make amazing castle women too...see Prof Trelawney for example. Fleshie or not..I shall be getting my hands on all the females as I collect the female figs..but take a closer look..the details are amazing in these figs.

Harry PARTER! I had the pleasure of viewing this set at BrickCon, and a pleasure it was. The design is nice, and there are a ton of figs with some nice elements. However, the parts alone are what really makes this set for me. It's like a big MMV-sized parts pack!

Looks like a great parts set, and I want it.

I was disappointed when HP switched to fleshies, but it's not the end of the world. It only affects 3 parts per figure.

I'm not a big fleshie fan either, but I like how Lego distinguishes the regular sets from the movie licenses.

I think this is the only HP set that I will pay full price on. I wasn't very impressed by the other sets. I think if it wasn't for the Harry Potter name, the new sets wouldn't do as well. Hogwarts Express for $80 or Emerald Night for $100.

Now if I find them at 50% off, that's a different story :)
