Minecraft

Post by Forestboy »

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this game I've stumbled upon, and maybe you've heard of it too.
Image
It's a game called Minecraft (1)(2) (3) which was/is being developed by Markus Alexej Persson, more commonly known on the web as "Notch", and his new team of Mojang Specifications. It is becoming an immensely popular game that is still in it's "Alpha" stage (It goes development, alpha, beta, completed version). It has already sold over 700,000 copies as of 12/09/10.

To put it in my own words, Minecraft is a 3d action adventure sandbox video game with textured blocks (similar to Lego, except perfect squares) in which your only task is to survive and have fun. Everytime you start a new file, an entire new world is randomly generated for you as well. There is a day and night cycle in which during the day you are supposed to build things, gather resources, mine, build a base, etc. and during the night, all kinds of evil monsters come out (they want to kill you :D ).

There is also one distinct part of this game which is called crafting. You use this little square in-game to create other objects out of ones you already have (i.e. use sticks and coal to create torches), but you have to line the objects up in a specific way to look like the object you want to make (for a complete list see here).

It appears to be an awesome game. Like I said, it's pretty much Lego, with an epic twist. I've been watching waaayyy to many videos about it because I can't get enough. ;) I still have yet to have it (waiting 'till Christmas), but me and my friends are all going to get it and stuff. It has multi-player capabilities. I've got big plans. :D There tons of things to say about the game.

Hey Forestboy,

You may want to remove from the thread title that this is a LEGO game, to prevent confusion.
Other than being a game where you build with blocks, this has nothing to do with LEGO, but I agree that the game is interesting for LEGO enthusiasts.
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

Epic post, we had no idea Minecraft would explode to become the massive game it is today.

13 years later and I've made my own Brick Building Sandbox game inspired by/tribute to the likes of Minecraft and Lego Worlds.

Enjoy!

Well he did say it was 'immensely popular' even at that time.

I remember those days, and remember not wanting to try it at the time since I was sure I would get addicted

Anyway, Minecraft actually went on to become the best selling video game to date, so it did get far more massive over time
