Please Make This Piece Into New Historical/Fantasy Armor

Post by Username »

I noticed that the Collectible Minifig series 4 Hockey Player and SW:CW Savage Opress are wearing the same armor piece with different printing. Does anyone else think this piece would be great for historical or fantasy armor? I could at least see it used as lōrīca segmentāta (of course with the appropriate printing):

I might appear stupid for asking this question however, if the shoe fits. Is that wearable armor? If so I think it would go nicely for fantasy armor. It is thin and looks good. The problem it would create is how to meld it with the other armors that castle has out currently. Those armors are completely different.

Yes. Apparently it's the same piece from the old hockey line.

I don't really see this piece being a great choice for armour. It looks extremely modern and doesn't really lend itself well to either a historical or fantasy setting. It's like the KKII helmets; they serve a purpose but they really are a poor substitute for the pointed visor (and now the bucket helm). I'd rather see LEGO going all out and giving us some new molds instead.

Looks pretty similar to the (imo) cool looking armor for the Lego Universe heor/knight:

I would agree with this sentiment. It doesn't look authentic enough compared to the more common armor thats been around for a while. The hockey armor looks like what it is: something you'd see on a rink or a football field. I just don't see it on a knight 700 or more years ago.

I really agree with Username's original suggestion for this piece. As for fantasy, I think the piece, as-is on Savage Opress, makes an ideal piece of fantasy armor -- S.O. pretty much already is a fantasy figure? (Just LOOK at him!)

As for historical armor, I think with some clever printing, it might make an ideal linothorax for ancient greek figures: http://www.300spartanwarriors.com/image ... thorax.jpg. And by "clever printing" I mean observe Opress's shoulder; Are we sure it's even the same piece as the hockey player's? On Opress it looks like there's a ridge between the two shoulder plates.

By the way, to cover a point of order, has information on the set with Savage Opress actually been made public yet?

Pretty sure lōrīca segmentāta, the example I used for historical armor in the original post, is more than 700 years old. I never suggested it should be used for Middle Ages or Renaissance.
