New Shield Mold

I was a bit excited when I saw that there was a new shield mold coming out in the Star Wars line -- only a little dissappointed to see that it was transparent. Still, the mold seems like it has some nice potential for customizing, so I thought I'd share a quick idea at designing a celtic bronze shield. I do wonder if, and for what, TLG might use the mold again in the future.

Re: New Shield Mold
Oh wow! I'll admit that I never even gave this shield a second glance and just assumed that it was the standard ovoid shield. Now I've gone to check if it were used in the Dragons Gate set but, no, it's the old shield. LEGO does like to get their money's worth out of new moulds so I wouldn't be surprised to see it in upcoming sets. Unless this was done at the request of Lucas Licencing and it's actually a Star Wars specific item.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Re: New Shield Mold
Interesting... I thought it was the new round shield form the Spartan., and that the angle just made it look different.

Re: New Shield Mold
Yep, a totally new shield. I get LEGO's catalog, so if I had known that you didn't know about it, or if you had known that I had known and asked me if I knew...whatever. Anyway, I would have reported this first if nobody beat me to it and I was certain noone knew. I should put it on a wizard, or a Mage-Knight or something.

Please, everyone do not take this opportunity to take this thread off-topic. TBW has already been asked not to make off-topic posts in the future.

Re: New Shield Mold
It looks like the surface is flat rather than curved (like a radar dish). That makes this perfect for decals like FLK's, which is a thing of beauty, btw.
Does this discovery mean that the BL price for this item sky-rockets as castle-heads rush to buy up the stock?

Re: New Shield Mold
I didn't even see this was a new mold! That's great! Lego could use this for a lot of different themes. They could put it on one of their collectible mini-figs, like a roman soldier.
Re: New Shield Mold
Hi ppl
I think this new shield would look great in a celt warrior, it would be more history acurate, the romans would use the rectangular shield and the greeks/spartans would use the round shield. this if TLC would launch an ancient history line.
The colours would be green for celts, red for romans, and blue for greeks. this is only my thoughts
the helmets for both greeks and romans would be the same as for the spartan but in different colours. for celts maybe the viking helmet with wings instead of worns.
of course we are forgetting others civilizations as the egiptians, the babylonians an the cartaginians.
for the egiptians the are already this pharaoh line, the babylonians are the prince of persia line, and last but not least the cartaginians are decendents from greek, so it would be easy to make them.

With apologies, but the Carthaginians were Phoenician, not Greek.Thoriun wrote:Hi ppl

The other suggestions you made, especially the one that the new mould be used for Celtic shields, sound really good for me. As was mentioned above, I too hope that this isn't going to be a Star Wars specific piece. While it isn't particularly useful to me in its current form, if it was produced in different colours, I'd be keen to pick it up in large quantities.
Re: New Shield Mold
hi, i stand corrected. but phoenician werent themselfs decendent from the greek tribes?
