Kingdoms Castle - On Steroids

Post by Fraslund »

Greetings!

I wanted to share my 2nd Castle project with you all. Basically I purchased the Kingdoms Castle and really liked the set, but the thought occured to me that is should be much bigger!

So.... another set and 6 Bricklink orders later I completed this:

My main goal was to keep the overall feel of the original castle, maintain playability, and really beef up the towers and walls. I ended up adding stables, a keep and well... you will see.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Great expansion! You've made the castle quite formidable, indeed. What really impresses me is the keep; it looks really good, rising high over the walls. The eye is immediately drawn to it. I also like the ballista.

Ha Ha, the topic name really suits the MOC! It's very good and you definitly succeded in keeping the idea of the castle. The keep is really awesome. ("Keep" up the good work!)

This makes me consider going back to get another set myself! You certainly did a great job in keeping true to the original style of the set.

The ballista is a nice touch and that keep is awesome.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I had a lot of fun building it and I tried to add a lot of detail that I dont know the pics bring out.

I am currently building an opposing tower that will face it from a different faction and I will probably also do a lion knight themed mage tower that has been in my head as well. I wish I was half as good as many of the guys on here at the landscaping and terrain, I think I am going to try and incorporate that more into some of my next projects.

Great work keeping the architecture similar around the entire build. Nice job on the roof in the middle as well.

Nice job! I like how you kept it modular as well, so you could rearrange the different sections if you wanted to. I also like the keep in the center, all the windows and the tiled floor look great. I liked the stables as well, the beams coming out from under the roof were pretty ingenious.

This is terrific. I like how you dealt with those irksome platforms by building them up enough for them not to look awful but still keeping them reminicent of the set. I also liked the addition of a keep, this being one of the large foibles of the set. The little bits (the well, guard house, etc) because they brought a nice bit of realism to the moc. The only real problem for me was the top bit of the keep. the tan didn't look right to me and the interior seemed overcomplicated and each bit distracted from the others. oh and I almost forgot, I thought the ballistas (or is that ballistae?) were great. also the addition of stairs.(stairs are an important aspect TLG always seem to forget.)

my 2 cents

He who thinks you should look at the box that says "Quaraga" if you want to find out his username (about as useful to you as his real name). he only wants you to look so he can laugh about you looking there because he's a total smart...

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you about the Tan and the interior. My worry was that it wouldn't flow with the rest of the set. For me it was a matter of contrast and the idea of adding the queens chambers. I wanted it to look gaudy and over wrought in the midst of all the fortifications. Also as I was building i was worried that with all the grey structures, everything would blend together. I thought about using a combination of dark brown and light reddish, but then figured it was the queens chambers so could afford to be a bit impractical :)

Thanks again for the feedback, I still have a lot to learn and am having a great time getting there!
