Lego lights and lighting

Post by pijani »

Dear friends,

I am building big castle, and I would like to put some kind of lights inside, to illuminate windows (made of trans bricks). I tried using Christmas lights, but they are too hot.

Any suggestions what would be easiest and yet the best-in-results way to put "sparkle" in castle night life? :)

The idea is to looks like there is someone inside and the lights are on :)

I would use both Lego and non Lego lights, preferring non-Lego

I have three suggestions for you.

I am a big fan of LifeLites. I have used them in my most recent medieval lighthouse that went to Brickcon with me. They have many options and work really well. Plus they are pretty bright being LED's. Here is a link:

Secondly, a lot of AFOL's use these flickering flameless candles. They look like this:

They can be found at most craft stores, often at Wal-mart or other stores of the like.

I have seen others use these touch lights:

But they are a bit big.

Agree with the above and would also like to add http://www.brickcircuits.com/ I saw their work at Brickworld and it's pretty cool.
If you are a LEGO purist, there are some parts that you may find useful:

I look forward to seeing to seeing what you come up with. I'm also playing around with some of the lego lights, mainly in fire places at the moment http://www.flickr.com/photos/peggyjdb/5422725330/

This is my first effort. I tried some night shots but it didn't really give off enough light!

Thanks, pleased you like it.

I got some lego lights and a lego battery box recently. The lights push fit into a technique beam and I have then fixed trans orange cones on top with the flame brick. The wall has a big void as it is 4 studs thick so I can run cables up and down. Hope that helps.
