maydayartist's medieval landscape in 'six chapters'

Post by jdarlack »

Last week I stumbled on a folder on brickshelf that shows the progression of a large medieval layout from 'the ground up". This got me curious, so I googled the user (maydayartist) and found that over at Eurobricks, he has posted a thread documenting the process of putting together a huge medieval landscape. The layout's been divided into six parts with a winding river throughout, and maydayartist plans to include "a little village, a little forest and a castle". The covered wooden bridge that has been built is already a great 'little' MOC (little in comparison to the whole layout, but a potentially great MOC in itself once it's finished).

Anyways, I figured the folks on CC might be interested. I'm in a slow process of building my first 'big' MOC with a landscape, so I'm looking forward to tracking maydayartist's step-by-step progression.

Here's a link to the Eurobricks forum topic "Start of a new big medieval landscape"

And here are a few preview pics from the brickshelf folder:

Awww man, this is good stuff. I have been speculating on how to do landscaping for over a year but haven't been able to figure it out. This is excellent info... I shall follow his work intently. :woo:

Thanks for sharing. Looks very impressive and big.

One question, is it sectional, so that you can take it down and move it around?

Lookforward to seeing how it progresses. James

The water, though simple, is effective for such a large build. Also one plus about this method is that I believe it comes apart? Anyway best of luck.

I'll be interested in following this as I'm smack in the middle of my own large landscape project. Mine's about 4'x12' with many of the same elements MDA has mentioned- river, forest and village.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Just to clarify, this is NOT my work. This is the work of maydayartist.

I am beginning my own big layout now (though because it's long and narrow, it's hard to figure out how I want to populate it).

I speak to MaydayArtist quite frequently, and I know he's been quite eager to build some medieval mocs so I could ask him to join here so he can present this himself. It will be epic, as he built a large pirate island that was very good, and im sure this will turn out very well

For those interested in making landscapes, I hope to start a new tutorial showing how to build a realistic medieval scene, which I will post up.

Hello

My best friend (a AFOL without Lego ^^) told me that you have discovered my build from BS and say I have to join here.
After big trouble in registration, Bruce hear my cry for help and fix the problem.

Now I want to update this thread to give you a current status of the build.

From the first post until now, much has been done. The ground moddeling is nearly finished and after that the next step will be the houses, trees, the castles and details for the landscape.
The last step for the ground is the hill on chapter six.

And here are some new pictures after the first one from chapter 1.

chapter 1 and 2

chapter 3

chapter 4

chapter 5

a total from all 5 chapters

and chapter 6 (unfinished for now)

I hope you like it.

Updates will be follow.

Hello maydayartist,

I have been following your project over on EB and have had a blast watching it take shape.

Wonderful work too. I still am in awe of the tree. Great work .

I look forward to seeing the final project as well.

No matter how many times I look at this and various other works like such, I still can't avoid having my MIND BLOWN. I just can't figure this stuff out... too complicated for me :tasty: . Not to mention, I've sold virtually all my basic colored bricks, excluding my whites, so I might have to just find a way to use all of those for building a terrain but to procure all those green and tan bricks... wow. Good work my man, I'm definitely going to have to scrutinize this over and over again until I comprehend the awesomeness of this WIP!
