I know I am going to really date myself here, but this reminds me of the old ASCII art.

Awesome door.

Silly question: What is Lego modulex, and how is it different from Lego regulex? Okay, I made that last bit up.

Modulex was a spin-off company from LEGO. They made these bricks at a smaller scale, and different width/height ratio. You can compare them in this picture:
Image
The brick on the left is normal LEGO. My understanding is that the Modulex bricks were initially made for architects, to build models of their designs.
Image
Later, they started producing signage - basically a huge baseplate mounted vertically then with letter printed tiles so you could make a sign (for instance, I used to work in a building where the building directory in the entryway was Modulex).
Image
In the 60s(?) Modulex broke off as a separate company, and now makes all kinds of sign products.

That's a lovely mosaic. Instantly recognizable and faithful to the illustration as well. I noticed it's near the top of the search results for "Doors of Durin." :)
I must confess that I didn't know what Modulex was either.

Very, very nice mosaic. The colors make it seem as if the door was glowing; I admire your patience to recreate those intricate designs with smaller pieces. Beautiful creation.
