It would seem that most of my building will be piratey in nature this year. That's already two tables worth, well one I guess because one table will be covered in 'water'. I'm going to start working on my Ollie but I'm not sure I can do the dark red/dark tan scheme I was hoping for. Do you have some sort of database for the Ollies yet? I'd hate to double up on colours.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

I'm keeping track but I don't really care if colors double up because I'm sure it will still be different from each other.

Here is the list so far, but do not take this as these people having a monopoly on the color choice.

Ollie List:
Black w/red red spikes and wings - Josh
Red w/yellow spikes and wings - Josh
Tan - Bluesecrets
Yellow - ElephantKnight
White - plums_deify

I overestimated my amount of yellow plates, so my Ollie will have a fair bit o' red on him.

How do we plan the layout of the collabrative build? Is there a plan, or do people just build something in base 8 and we figure out how it goes together when we get there? Also, can you clarify what "base 8" is, exactly? Thanks.

As it gets closer and we get an idea of what has been built you will see more detailed coordination. Usually we just figure it out the final layout when we are all there with our MOC's. However, if it's large I'm sure Josh would appreciate knowing ahead of time so he can get a general idea. Also, if you have a neighbor in mind you can coordinate with them as well.

My attendance depends entirely on the timely arrival of a child. I will register and build and plan to come but I won't commit to anything you can't live without until the little guy arrives. Hoping that will be a few weeks prior.

So it's taking me a long time to post up to flickr but I've got a handful of the shots of WIP of the desert fantasy stuff I'm working on for Castle. I'll keep adding more as I move through WIP stages and add more plates. I'm posting mostly to seduce collaborators but if you have feedback on how I can make things more middle-eastern without getting more controversial I'd love to get posts to the flicker picks or messages here on the forum.

I'm sorry, Jordan, I missed your question somehow. Sorry about that. I keep a general plan of the layout and fit in whatever people tell me they are bringing. The edges of each person's section need to be one brick high, built on a baseplate (we call it BpB or Brick plus Baseplate), but the rest of your section is up to your. We use Base8 also but it only applies to the edges. If you don't understand the Base8 standard, feel free to email me or contact me via Private Message.

This is looking really good. I can't wait to see it finished and, please, keep posting the WIP pictures. They really help me get a feel for the layout.

My daughter is really excited about your city and she is planning on building a market stall or two and maybe a tent or two as well. She wants to know they should be built upon.

Josh, I think I have the base 8 figured out. Anything in particular you need for your layout that isnt spoken for already? I'm more than happy to be set to task on something. Whatever I bring will probably be fairly small though, as the majority of my inventory will be tied up in my stand-alone. (I guess I could always convert the stand alone to base 8 though...)

So... update on me. I don't know if I will be able to make it for the entire convention but I should be able to make it for the public expo on Sat and/or Sun. I still have a slight possibility of being able to make it for the whole thing but I wont know for sure until quite close to the convention.

Also, for those concerned about matching Base8 or BpB, there is usually brick for making little conversion pieces... although its better if you can make it one of the two to begin with.

Hope to see you all there!

If you can convert your stand-alone that would be awesome! As for things we need, there is nothing specific. We just take what we've got and try to lump it together in a rough plan before we go. There will probably be some holes that need filled but I won't know until we get closer.

Remember, Thomas, if you can be there for one whole day, you can pay to be an attendee for the day. Then you can be there before and after the public hours.

Yeah, maybe I could do that... I have classes Thursday and Friday and I don't yet know whether or not it would be an OK idea to skip them... Also, Lodging costs would hamper my ability to come for longer than a day or two. But I will most likely be able to come up for at least one day (since I'll be near Portland next year).
