Minifigure Compound Bow
We’ve been anxious to share with you all our compound bow. It’s hard creating minifigure sized weapons, but we are particularly fond of how this one turned out. Hope you like it and feel free to make your own! We would love to see these catch on.
The compound bow is made from six separate pieces and matches the size of the new elven bow produced by Lego. AND if you tweak it just right it can even FIRE the loaded arrows!!
Here several Forestmen Sharpshooters ambush a scouting party sent by the tyrannical Lion Kingdom. We tried to show the different uses of the bow as well as a close up comparison. Minifigs can sling the bows across their backs, draw them back to fire, and more. Hope you all enjoy
And like most everything we do we like making lots of them! I think its the Brikwars in us...

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
I commented on this one in eurobrick's so I can't comment on it over here, Awesome Job.
Ooops.

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
Beautiful. Just beautiful, oh and apparently functional too. And realistic. Also I love the ambush MOC, expecially the use of power miners monster heads. Truly inspired stuff.

While I am normally rather cynical of brick-built weapons, yours is very accurate and applicable. Very well done!

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
That. Is. Awesome. I love the fact you can tweak it to fire also. Keep up the good work!

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
This is quite well done and highest marks for actually being able to fire. Very clever build in minifig scale. I can hardly wait to make some rednecks hunting deer or a line of archers at a modern tournament.
That said why are you giving it to forestmen and posting it here? Compound bows are a modern invention totally inappropriate to a castle-themed MOCs.
[rant not aimed at anyone here]Those New Zealand propmasters and armourers who populated ancient Greece (Xena) and other locales with lazy-Megablocks compound bows really have a lot to answer for historically. [/rant]

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
I see what you guys mean about compound bows being modern, but on a forum loaded with dwarves, orcs, wizards, trolls, and other such things, the inclusion of a compound bow seems pretty unastounding. lets just say the dwarves invented it to help them out against the elves

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
I agree with what Elbadar said, it could simply be a dwarven invention. Seems logical to me, as I give my dwarves flintlock pistols.Elbadar wrote:I see what you guys mean about compound bows being modern, but on a forum loaded with dwarves, orcs, wizards, trolls, and other such things, the inclusion of a compound bow seems pretty unastounding. lets just say the dwarves invented it to help them out against the elves
However, it seems a bit bulky for my liking.

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
Thanks for the comments!
I can see it not being historical castle... and not fitting everyone's view of what's medieval. But pretty much everything we build has fantasy elements, not just confined to the way the middle ages happened on earth Part of what we enjoy about this setting is coming up with inventions and pushing the creativity a little... I mean in a forum with roving orc fortresses, airships, magic... an elite squad of our archers having advanced bows didn't seem too out of place As for giving them to forestmen - they're our best archers so it seemed to fit.

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
I have to agree withe veryone else int hat this bow is cool, and exellent job at being able to make it fire, but there is one little nitpick I have. It doesn't quite seem right for the Forestmen, and being darkgrey/black, it looks like it is metal, and not wood. Real bows wouldn't work with metal (From what I know) so these seem a tad unrealistic.

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
Ahh, but real compound bows do have some metal in them, who's to the black parts are not wood? They may be a bit modern looking for a historical middle ages but has been pointed out, our castle includes the fantasy side as well. They are quite clever in my book, if you are thinking of robin hood and his merry men style forestmen then the compound bows might be a bit big and blocky for stealth, but this group has a more traditional palisade-wall then you'd expect from a Robin Hood style group of forestmen.
I think they're well done and a clever use of pieces.
I also am not going to criticize their factional placement of the compound bows, it's their story to tell even if the story is 'Look at these neat bows we came up with'
It's already more building than I've managed to do recently and likely more clever as well.

Build? I merely Acquire atm.
Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
I for once can't wait to see if the next brick-made bow will be fantasy stile, thinking high elves, or even bether, some Drow spiky crosbow?

Re: Minifigure Compound Bow
Great bow I can say. Thanks for sharing it with us.
For sure it does not fit real medieval eages, but in fantays era perfectly.

Good job.
You've got to ask yourself one question,"Do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?
