Dear Classic Castle Forum...

Post by LEGOFREAK »

I never thought it would happen to me....

:D

My wife called me up from a garage sale last night...

Mrs. Freak: "honey this lady is selling a bin of lego for forty bucks. Do you want it?"

Freak: "lemmethinkaboutityes!!!"

so far my son and I have done a little digging into this bin (which weighed about fifty to seventy pounds) and have found the following neat things:
Two monkeys! a complete BSB, a technic droideka complete with instructions, a ton of women minifigs (my men minifigs are overjoyed), a lot of foliage, a lot of pirate stuff, minifigs, imperials, etc., a bunch of old baseplates.
I have even found a few lego that are really really really really old. :D

SO why post? Am I just bragging?

No.

I intend to get the parts out that I really want, but there is going to be a lot that I won't use. So when I get a better inventory I will post in the buy/sell/trade thread.
I had wanted to get some of the new KK2 sets this weekend, but I guess I will be sorting. Fortunately I have a great helper.

And to think that your signature had me thinking you were a lazy man.

This is an awesome haul.

Please excuse me while I go weep and mourn.

Great.... I expect in a couple of days, after you have sorted more to have you post, "I also found 11 dk grey euro armour, 35 scale mail torso's, 6 dk grey pointed visors..."

Cool find, good for you. Helps when the spouse appreciates your addiction, er, I mean, hobby. Last fall my wife came home from the city (I asked her to keep an eye out for deals) and said there was nothing, except this dragon fortress for 50% off, but she didn't think I would want that, because it's not castle   I explained to her that the orient expidition was very useful for parts, especially that set at that price. Went back a few days later, ALL gone...... No, I'm not bitter
I never thought it would happen to me....
It won't happen to me for the same reason I will not win the lottery.... I don't buy lotto tickets and i don't go garage saling.

I am happy for you though.

I don't think it is just people over the age of 15, being twice that age, I have to say that in all my years of collecting, I have never found a decent deal at a garage sale. I think we can just say that some people are luckier than others.

That means I won't find any good deals for 1 1/2 years!!!

Congrats on the find though, and what kind of old parts, or do I want to know?

Really - I was lucky. I can't tell you guys how often I went to a garage sale, and asked about lego only to hear "oh I just sold a box about ten minutes/an hour/this morning to... "

and so far I am three quarters of the way sorted, and the only castle in it is one lone wolfpack figure, and one extra black hood. Everything else is town, belville, and that paradisa stuff.

Still, there are LOTS of useful pieces, and I intend to sell off bulk packs of yellow, white, and red brick.

will post more later. :D

I would KILL for a deal like that... the only legos I ever saw for sale cheep were at a flea market, just bricks, and mixed in with like 10,000 different kinds of Megablocks. I wouldn't have bought it if you paid me.

A family friend gave my sisters a small bucket of paradisa stuff, and it's actually pretty useful. (Don't tell 'em, I already pinched all their light gray bricks and horses.) :)
Sitting in a midnight glade
Firelight dancing off burnished blade
A Forestman sits
Wondering about the next day
But after three mugs of ale
Let it bring what it may.

Pretty useful?

Paridisa may be for girls (and thus anathema to us macho brickheads), but it was pretty well-designed and fun line, and even from a Castle perspective, it has great uses:

Horses, horse accessories, grey pieces, more baseplates (I'm thinking the island in particular), female heads, lots of hairs, even some of their house accessories.

And if you ever wanted to impress a girl with Lego, I think a fairy-land pink-and-white castle would be the way to go.
