I don't know if anyone else is, but I have built the sigfig shoot hill...well sand dune.Is anyone doing any collaborative hill/cliff building? I was planning on building some additional cliff face beyond what I had at BrickFest 2009.

All you need to do is add some plates and bricks around the edges. Two plates high right on the edge is enough to create a gentle slope down from the one brick of the adjoining modules.fraslund wrote:My biggest issue I think is the height. I built everything on standard plates...
You do not have to bring the entire surface up to the same height. In fact part of the reason we use this system is to allow different elevations to avoid a flat surface.
If you have run out of green plates and brick someone else can bring theirs and fill in the "gap" (just remember to remove it before you take your stuff home.)

I haven't heard of anyone doing any cliffs, at least not yet.ffilz wrote:Is anyone doing any collaborative hill/cliff building? I was planning on building some additional cliff face beyond what I had at BrickFest 2009.

I am hoping to have some hills and perhaps even a mountain completed.... However the final verdict on my attendance won't be until a few weeks away from the con.

I'm also planning a rather large landscape. I could have a cliff at one edge that's Base-8 compatible, although I hadn't planned on it. Now that I think about it, I might just add that in anyway.ffilz wrote:Is anyone doing any collaborative hill/cliff building? On height matching, in a big display, honestly, as long as your edge is within one brick in height to it's neighbor, it usually will look just fine (after all, some folks do slopes in brick increments).
On cliffs, my hope is to expand my elevated area some, and to try and arrive with a bunch of 8, 16, and 32 stud long cliff elements and some raised areas, such that if someone else had some of those bits, we might be able to make a larger hill/mountain area.
I also plan on extending my river (actually, I already have 1 river section that didn't appear at Brick Fest, I made a camping display for a group camping trip and made it Base-8 compatible (and compatible with my wider rivers). So I also have three new 32x32 sections with tan road crossing them.
Oh, and I need to make me some dark green evergreen trees with the batch of dark green 5x7 leaf clusters I recently acquired.

This sounds doable. I think I can make this work! Thank you sir.Tedward wrote:All you need to do is add some plates and bricks around the edges. Re: BrickCon Castle Planning
I will be back at BrickCon this year.
My daughter is keen on Harry Potter MOCs this year, and we are planning to build a 2x3 gray baseplate Quidditch Pitch. That'll probably be for the stand alone area I imagine. I also want to finish Orthanc, but I may not be able to in time. The Quidditch pitch is taking up the much of the brick that would go to Isengard's walls, so I may shelve that for next year. We'll see.
I Have many figs for the collaborative, but due to yucky non-Legoness I have almost no time to build I do however have lots o' bits and parts ready, let me know what you might need Josh and I'll see what the kidlets and I can whip up.

Re: BrickCon Castle Planning
I also can do a couple of 32x32 road sections or something to fill space if you need it. I might build a black and red evil tower too, if I have time. We'll see. Just let me know what you need to fill out your layout

OK sounds good. do we need straight sections, T intersections, 90 degree bends....? Let me know. Also, do they need to be tan? I'd rather build in reddish brown, but if they need to be tan, I can pick up some plates with my next bricklink order.

Re: BrickCon Castle Planning
Build whatever you want. The layout is very fluid right now. There won't be a "plan" until it gets really close and I know what people are bringing. The layout will be what you all want it to be. Roads are great features and it is great to have them meandering all throughout, especially in the front sections. It gives the eye something to follow and there are lots of little "stories" that we can set up along the roads.AK_Brickster wrote:OK sounds good. do we need straight sections, T intersections, 90 degree bends....? In the past, roads have been mostly tan, but you can build yours in whatever color you like, as long as they are tan where they hook onto other people's stuff. If you are building a lot of roads, remember that they need to be eight studs wide at the edge of the baseplate and set in the base8 sections of the baseplate edge...such as the first eight studs or second eight, etc. If that doesn't make sense, then PM me and I'll make it more clear.
Woohoo! There seems to be a lot of excitement about the layout this year. I'm getting stoked!

Update on me and such: I definitely going at this point. However, I will be away from my collection so I will probably only be bringing minifigs.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
