T'Met Monastery

Post by tiberium_blue »

I'm glad this one is finished. There are lots of half-plate height and width variations that made it challenging and I'm beginning to miss my desk. :)

The brick technique is created by using technic liftarms and was borrowed from a moc built by Steven Marshall. There are around 7,000 individual "brick" elements in total and as many pins holding them all together. All of the liftarms are connected from the nearside of the bridge to the top of the tower.

The building is based on artwork created for the P'Jem Monastery from the TV show 'Enterprise'. I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't get the arch pieces used for the roof in sand green or use alternatives without leaving gaps all over. I would've also liked to have made the roof more 'pointier' as in the artwork but I didn't want to lose the wood effect I had under the arches.

Thanks for looking.

Oh my, this is one of the most beautiful MOC's I've seen in a long time. The texture of the whole thing is amazing.

My thoughts exactly. One question, could you show a segment of wall done in that style, or point me to one, as although I know the piece, I cant for the life of me figure out how you can connect that many without it falling apart/being too unstable.

Other than that, I love the isolated feeling, as well as the fact that it is a monastery, which we have surprisingly few of. Great MOC, and incredibly original.

I used mostly L shaped liftarms. The extra connection points help to make the walls solid. In the areas where I was forced to use the smaller 1x2s such as the entryway to the monastery or in the corners of the walls I've either doubled the thickness which helps or used the 1x2 with axle hole which stops them from being a little bit wobbly.

If you still need to see the construction I can build a small segment later in the week.

Thanks for your comments guys.

That looks really well done! Very beautiful and love the colors. May have to try that technique out for myself.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite castle creations. Tons of brilliantly executed ideas everywhere. The rockwork is also some of the best quality. Congrats on a truly majestic build.
