Because fans like to be segregated? What's wrong with gender specific toys? I don't know if the world has lost its collective marbles, but boys & girls / men & women are different.

Also, think of this line as a gateway theme. I believe this line was designed to pull in those who are not currently fans of Lego. I wouldn't be surprised if this line was sold in the girls section and not the Lego section.

Are the sets available now at TRU stores in the US?

Late to the party here, but my 9 year old daughter is not impressed with this at all. Actually, I am way more impressed than she is. I want the sets for the color variations and quantity I can't get elsewhere. She looked at the figs and said "those look stupid!". I tried to warm her up by showing the comparison between the Friends figs and Polly Pockets(which she likes), but to no avail. She continues to say that the "boy" sets as she calls them, are way cooler becuase of the action involved in most sets. She thinks the Friends set are missing action, and just revolve too much around regular daily life. Of course, she is probably biased by having a dad that plays with original Lego, and watches Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Superhero movies way more than is probably healthy, and 2 brothers that play Ninjago/Star Wars Lego.

Not yet. The empty display was still sitting upfront.

I nipped into Target today to see if the Series 6 Collectible Minifigs were on the shelves yet. They weren't ( :( ), but they did have shelf space set aside for the Friends line, and a few of the "Olivia's Treehouse" set had been set out. Sure enough, it was placed with the other girls' toys rather than with the other LEGO sets--right next to Polly Pocket, in fact. I didn't buy it, but I took a good look at the box art. Aside from the new colors, it includes several foliage pieces and some entirely new flower shapes, including roses. So we could be looking at some nice new part assortments from this line.

Well put Username, indeed after reading your (and others) discussion, I believe this is the case.

Hey all,

Brickset noted yesterday a bunch of new instructions uploaded to the LEGO.com database, including many previously unknown sets. In addition to other interesting ones (two Batman polybags and one Heroica polybag, a couple of SW polybags), there are several Friends polybag sets or other small sets. It looks like it will be fairly easy to accumulate a number of the Friend-figs. Perhaps not of interest to most (though the hairpieces, at least, appear to be interchangeable with minifigs), but as I have a daughter I'll probably snatch up some of these.

Am I the only one excited about the new flowers?

I agree, the flowers and some other new molds (the utensils, for instance) are pretty exciting.

BTW, I was in Target today and these are all on the shelf. They're not with the LEGO, but are rather in the 'girly aisles' right next to Polly Pockets. At least in my local Target this is just the next aisle over from the LEGO aisle, so they're not totally isolated.

The new flowers look a lot like the flowers present in some of the Scala sets, or maybe Belville. The butterfly and ladybug also look like parts from one of those lines. Once I get my hands on an actual set, I'll be able to compare for sure.

I don't see the problem or controversy behind this line.. It seems great and so much better than the Belleville line its replaced. Its basically lego but with a different shaped figure. The figures are the same size as the female castle figs and have the same sized heads .. so it means more hairstyles we can use on castle folks.
I want multiples of that tree house and if they have those new flowers in different colours I'll take those too.
Anything that gets people to buy more Lego works for me.... It might even stop my niece from stealing my nephews Lego lol

The problem is the millions of dollars the company has invested in this. It has to be one of the biggest risks they've taken in a very long time, and personally - though I hope I'm wrong - I think Friends is going to flop. Heavily.

So as I sit, building my first ever Friends set...I have a few things to add to this discussion.

1) I would have ADORED this line as a child. Begged my parents for EVERY SINGLE SET and probably doubles.

2) As an adult..I ADORE it. Why? see the following:
a) Silverware FINALLY
b) kitchen equipment
c) new colors - trans pink 1x1 rounds!!!
d) new wigs...i can always be happy with new wigs
e) the color combinations are very eye pleasing
(and that is the short list)

3)

I am not so sure I can agree with that. But time will tell.

4) I suggest everyone buy a set. Keep and open mind.

I am thoroughly amused by the Friends line. Yep. I definitely am.
