I'm not sure I understand your objection here, Nelson, and I disagree with a couple of your premises above. First the premises: "Built specifically for miscellaneous" seems a bit of an oxymoron. I'd rather suggest that people have ideas of what they want to build before the categories are announced, or perhaps have already built but not posted MOCs before the categories are announced. You can't specifically tailor a creation to fit the requirement of no requirements. Adding a small number of additional entries to a category in no way negates the entries already there. If this were true, the second entry submitted to any category would 'negate' the first entry. Yes, there are a large number of entries in misc, but the 5 shifted entries doesn't really impact this all that much (5 because Guy combined his 4 initial entries into 1). And really, judging a category with 41 entries isn't so difficult. After a near-decade of doing this contest, I think the process is pretty manageable.Sir Nelson wrote: I am wondering why ANY creation should be moved to the "Miscellaneous" category, particularly with the contest rule that "Submissions will be evaluated based on Creativity, Playability and Details." It would seem that entries that are moved by the Admins into this category would negate all of those entries that were built specifically for the Miscellaneous category, following said rule.
Moreover, seeing 41 entries (as of this post) in the Miscellaneous category (entered and/or moved) would seemingly make judging difficult if not possible, based on said criteria for evaluation.
Clarification on the 'moving' of entries and/or definition of 'key category requirements' per category, is requested. Thank you.
As to the issue of moving entries at all, I think I answered this above in this thread. You've judged the big pirate contest over at the Cove. Suppose someone entered a fortress in a ship category. Even if it was a really awesome fortress, you would have to judge it very low on the criteria of being a ship. So it would be much better to move it into a category where it could do well or even win. I think it's much better to shift it than to leave it where it is and just automatically rank it last in the category. The one thing that we have never addressed is moving things from misc to other categories, and that might be a valid question, given that there are some entries that people submitted to misc but that might fit into other categories.
