Lands of Classic Castle - Discussion Thread

Post by Teherean »

Just throwing this out there.

Just before returning from the dead here on CC I read up on something called Guilds of Historica. Apparently, it's a caslte/medieval themed, group based community thingy that focuses around four guilds, Avalonia, Mitgardia, Nocturnus and Kaliphlin, each with their own respective leaders, hiearchy and backgrounds. also, these Guilds seem to be pretty Megablocks big as far as members go. A few great themed builds showed up on google when I typed in the names of the guilds. Here's a link to the Eurobricks thread about the guilds.

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... opic=61958

I thought it was a pretty cool concept so I signed up with the Mitgardians. Is there any guild presence here on CC? Since the themes pretty much overlap with the entire concept of CC I thought combining the two would be pretty Megablocks cool. Just throwing this out there.

Hey,

(I shifted this over to Castle MOCs, btw.)

Yeah, this is a pretty cool group project they've got going over at Eurobricks. I've been waiting to hear back from someone whose MOC I wanted to feature on the front page and I was going to highlight this, but now is as good a time as any. Basically they're creating a mythical world, with four realms. People sign up to be part of one of the realms, each of which has its own history and inhabitants. The moderators then bring up building challenges - the first was to make a border watchtower, the second was to make an embassy. Forum members then create MOCs in their interpretations, based on the backstory. So there have been some pretty great MOCs already, and a couple of them were entries in the CCC (I have to admit that at first I didn't know what the reference was when two different CCC builders had 'Mitgardian' outposts - I thought maybe they were based on some fantasy novel I hadn't read).

Exactly what I was thinking just now... Sort of a CC GoH page. :D

Are you talking about tying it directly to GoH, or starting an independent "world" exclusively for CC'ers? Seems like a lot of work, but I'd be down to participate. I have enough trouble staying on top of one forum though, so I probably won't join the Eurobricks one.

I have been following the project since it started, and some very cool mocs have come as a result of it. I especially like to see the Avalonian guild leader Derfel Cadarn's mocs.
You would rather be building right now.

I'm not really sure what a GoH is but what I was thinking is a world for CC'ers, something like what they have over at Eurobricks. I would be willing to run it if there's any interest and if the admins are ok with it.

I'm in the Kaliphlin guild(Desert faction) over on EB and it is a blast. Of course if something starts here, I will be really strapped for time....but I wouldn't be able to resist :D

I made a Eurobricks account just for the guilds.I could work something out. If the admins are OK with it, I'll gladly help set something up here related to the Guilds.

My ideas:
- We make a separate forum page (or just pin this one) relating to the guilds, making it easier to oversee guild-related mocs, items and activities.
- We start our own CC guild, to fit in with the existing Historica world, with our own banner, guild master and ranks etc. (communication with the existing guilds is required for this, I'm sure that with enough people here backing us up it shouldn't be to much of a problem.)

you have an interesting idea about making our guild fit in with the ones from eurobricks, but I think that having our own world would be better, I realize this may take some effort but as I said earlier I would be willing to do what ever is necessary.

The nice part on Eurobricks, is that the admins laid out a basic format for the world. Basically, the named the 4 guilds and described the environment that each guild land inhabits(desert, forest, mountains, etc..). They then made a map with basically no details, just enough to show where the guild land was located. From there, each guild determined the cities and landmarks, etc. through the builds and chatter on the forums. That way whoever was running the challenge didn't have to create the whole world out of their mind. They were then free to basically come up with a challenge every 2 months(so far) that inspired some nice builds and the guilds were awarded points based on the participation rate of each guild in addition to the winning builds.

I think this also helped to drive the interest in the challenge, because each builder is able to carve out his/her own niche in the world.

Actually, some of you may know Wobnam, I think he is working on a "Castle world" somewhat similar to the EB guilds. His plan is to make it available to anyone, and have a central sort of "collaborative building". I'll let him explain if he sees this.
