"...and thus, many of the southern islands were left unoccupied by any major powers, and rarely visited, leaving them to their own devices as time passed by"
Yes, that sounds like a good way to explain it!

Hehe, thanks.
Do you by the way know if the lore contest will begin after the map has been finalised?

The lore contest will begin as soon as a map has been selected, yes.

Yes, as Teherean said, the lore entry thread will be posted after we have reached a decision as to which map we will use. :)

The southern Isles could also have been colonies that were abandoned due to overstretched resources of the other kingdoms or natural disasters etc

I actually like that input. They could, too, be used as a way of including non-european culture, as they've now been re-taken by the native, mesoamerican-esque population, forming their own minor kingdoms and townships.

I like that a lot. That way it could give people a lot of leeway to be very creative in their building. I look forward to seeing what peoples medieval esque ships are going to look like too!

When you guys are desiging maps, you don't have to know the where, what and whys about every area - in fact, it's best to have a lot of land that isn't designated yet, to allow room for the project to grow. Focus on making an interesting land with lots of features, we can figure out the rest later.

Agreed, and after all, any map can be expanded on later if we run out of land.

We could arguably have a scenairo where if we wanted to join worlds with the guys of Eurobricks that there is a portal of some sort on the southern Isles. Just a WOW inspired idea... lol

This is awesome! Something like this would really up the value of this project, I think. We'll discuss this amongst the "developers" and see if this is something we want to do.
The main problem I forsee is the sheer number of MOCs that are going to be generated - If this gets as big as I think it can, there could be a dozen MOCs/week that would need to be added to this map, with everyone fighting over prime real estate for where they want their building to go. Perhaps we would need to limit the ones featured to contest winners or something. For example, "This month's contest is to design a fortification for (Faction A) at (x,y,z location)." And then post the winner to the map

Thumps up! That seems like a good way to keep the amount of MOCs on the map limited and everything less cluttered. Only thing is we'll have to split up the final map in a number of (x,y) points.
